I had my no-sleep, post-illness session with T today.

It was a REALLY GOOD session I was MAJORLY triggered by Scary Guy in waiting room, who has session at the same time as me and is the LOUD TRIGGERING VOICE I always hear through the wall. He is so scary. So I went in literally shaking all over, but managed to get to a safe enough place to actually have the session be about things other than the triggering voice next door (we lose a lot of sessions to that guy!)

Anyhow, during my session, I told T I thought he should be more like Carl Rogers! lololol I can't think of any therapist who is MORE like Carl Rogers...and the funny thing is it's because I was lecturing him on not having expectations, just trusting me to grow and heal at my own pace. And in the lecture, I was basically saying "but here's my expectation for YOU...I need you to be like the very guy who INVENTED the sort of therapy we're doing - the master!" T said "I'm only a therapist". T is so good to put up with me

We talked a lot about the rupture of this summer and both of our feelings about it. That was helpful to both of us, I think. And we had time to get into - and back out of - some yucky childhood stuff that came up last night.

It's amazing how much can be crammed into 50 minutes sometimes.

When I left I really felt like I didn't need a message. But he's been leaving me one after every appointment for FOREVER, and I had this little bit of paranoia that I would change my mind later and it would be the weekend and too late. So I called and asked for the message. I think I will try the "no message" thing on a Tuesday appointment when I know he's there in between sessions if I need him.

Wishing EVERYONE who has a session today a good, connecting session

Wow, how great for you, Tree! So glad it was a rich and rewarding session for you.

Yes, it often amazes me how much we do fit into one session!

OMG stumpy - this is extra funny because my T and I actually talk quite a bit about Mr. Rogers - he was a big source of escape for me when I was little, and was so soothing - I would cry every day when the show was over. T says my younger parts talk a lot about him. And he said whenever he sees a Mr. Rogers reference now, he thinks of me

So, really, either is fine - Carl Rogers, Mr. Rogers, whoever!

I used to LOVE Mr. Rogers. I watched with my daughter, who said he looked like my Dad. I felt safe and calm with Mr. R. and liked when he sang about being special, etc. Felt he was talking to ME. I felt SO sad when he died. He was a very special person, and he'd make a wonderful T, I think.

Oh, man, your poor T, treehouse! Those are tough shoes to fill. I wonder what my T would do if I said that to him. My T is of the same school, but he is not as non-directive as Carl, although less directive than many Ts. Carl is just so healing. I like how your T said, "I'm only a therapist." Once, early on in therapy, I told my T I thought he was a great therapist or some such hyperbole, and he said "there are lots better therapists than I am." I have not found that to be true at all, lol. The other day we were talking about the failure to solve certain problems when I went to see a family therapist with my daughter, and T said well if he had been the therapist, he would have handled it like such and such, because he is more skilled. Hmmmm, where is modesty now? It's interesting to hear our therapists talk about themselves as therapists, isn't it?

It sounds like you had a great session, treehouse, and covered a lot of ground. It sounds like things are going well!

I hated Mr. Rogers. 'Course I was too old for that, but the smarmy pretend-friendliness and everything-is-so-happy approach of his. Ugh.

Goes along with everyone's idea of me here already...

Pachy, I didn't like Mr. Rogers either. I found him extremely boring. To me, that show seemed to move like molasses. You are not alone!

about a month or so ago, my t said to me that she was thinking she must be a bad therapist because she couldn't get any of her skills to help me @_@ that was a terifying moment. I told her not to say that!!! She's the best i've ever worked with (and I've worked with a lot). It's not easy to work with DID. plain and simple.
Now of course, she has seemed to put her "doctor-ness" on and my world may never be the same again.

LOL - no kidding!

I just said it jokingly, and it made a lot of sense in the context of what we were talking about I really love T just how he is.
