I've been struggling ith depression for years. I had a fairly good therapist who relocated and is too far away now. I had a very good psychiatrist to work with my meds but I switched insurance and she's not in network. I've tried 3 different psychiatrists and 3 different therapists since switching to the new insurance and I'm not happy with any of them. I'm truly at my wits' end.

Oh man that sucks bigtime, rum. My T recently moved away too and it is never easy to transition.

You're in Philly? There are some REALLY REALLY good universities in your area!!! Temple and UPenn come to mind. Universities are like the "hidden secret" of mental health care. They offer very low rates and very very good services. You may be seeing a student but they are actually much more devoted to their cases because their caseload is much less, because clinical psychology programs are so competitive these days the students are absolute top-notch, and the supervision is unparalleled. Basically, I'd recommend it very much. I've seen a student and I'll tell you the services are often much better than currently practicing therapists I've seen.

I'm sorry you're in such a tough situation. I assume you can't afford to see someone out-of-network, right? That's understandable. Is there anyone left to try who is in -network? I wouldn't give up until I tried them all.
Did your last T recommend anyone? Maybe you need to give the Ts you didn't like more of a chance before rejecting them.

Often Ts have sliding fees or you can find one who will let you pay less, or come less often if that's possible for you.

Don't give up! I'm sure there is a good T for you.

I'm not a huge fan of seeing students, residents, interns, nor universities. They change out frequently, do not have the 1/1 nor time nor skill needed for anything beyond short term IMO. Perhaps I am much more biased because I worked for a major university hospital for a long time and have seen it from the inside and out. I am perhaps too critical (maybe, unsure) however I also know that not all universities are the same.

What about Employee Assistance Program? Does your workplace cover any T's under that?
