I missed this yesterday, that it was your birthday! Happy belated birthday!
Yes, I had a session on my bday, but I hadn't been seeing my T too long then. But she did remember it and wished me a happy birthday and said she hoped I did something special and fun! We had a good, light-hearted session that day, I remember....she complimented me on looking stylish, which I appreciated because she always looks so stylish.

Thanks, everyone!! Suratji, I posted about my session in my other thread about turning disappointment into connection. You posted "thanks" so you must have read it and forgotten. It wasn't wonderful, but it was intense and I felt very connected to my T at the end when we were making the card. My feelings were right there, and T was with me. This therapy is so different from my others, and it's scaring me.

when this thread originally came up, i mentioned that i've not seen my therapist on my birthday before - but that i'd actually be seeing her on hers. well, that's happening next week! we met today and i thought for sure she'd say something about having to reschedule next week, but she just said, "so, see you next thurs, same time?" i was pretty surprised. it's possible she hasn't realized it's going to be her birthday or it's possible she doesn't really care (and wants to work regardless).

anyway, my question is this: have any of you seen your therapist on their birthday? i don't know what difference it will make to hear if you have, but i guess i'm just kind of wondering what to expect or how to be. i think i'm wanting it to be special in some way, but have no real idea how. she's not big on gifts (neither am i) and i already gave her a little something when we had our "therapy anniversary" a month ago. this is the only time i've given her anything, and another gift (especially on the heals of the other one) would feel like too much.

i was thinking of giving her some other kind of "gift" - maybe telling her how much i appreciate her (which i already tell her all the time lol) or telling her some kind of insight i've had about myself, etc.

actually, i think i just thought of something, so nevermind! guess i just needed to talk this out for a sec

Oh my, what a great question. I was going to start a topic about it because my T and I share the birthday! Yes, our birthdays are on the same day, thirteen years apart My question is - would it be OK for me to bring him little something? I am not even sure what would be a propriate gift to T. Or is it a bad idea? Should we schedule our session on a different day that week?

ugh. i just realized that this birthday (she's almost 70) means that my therapist is "officially" getting older

ljp1979: i don't see anything wrong with bringing him a gift. that's so neat that you share a birthday, and if he's willing to meet that day (like if it's your normal meeting day or whatever), then i say go for it!
