![]() Cats, I don't know about anyone else, but I'm drawn to reading this thread like I'm drawn to looking at a car pile up on the thruway--I don't want to look. I don't want to see the horror, but I can't resist because I'm sure this pile up will be ten times worse than the last one I saw and I just can't seem to resist a peek to find out if the latest post about your psychiatrist is even more outlandish than the last one. I'm not saying this to be mean or cruel; I'm simply being honest. I try to stay away from this thread because what I see happening disturbs me--things that I see as significant boundary crossings and client abuse (how your therapist has spoken to you on more than one ocassion). If your excitement is that the thread has been viewed more than 10,000 times, please know that it's probably because many people can't believe that you're being treated this way in therapy . . .and personally, I feel bad about that because I think you genuinely feel great fondness for your psychiatrist and feel very supported. But sometimes the support we wish for and dream of isn't what we need as adults. I'm sure your psychiatrist has genuine feelings of fondness and care for you . . . but her therapeutic approach has gotten pretty strange and frankly not good mental health practice. But I'm guessing you're not going to view things the same way I do and that's okay. Just try to stay safe, okay? And please, please meet with your previous therapist and talk openly and frankly about all the things you've spoken about here on this thread and others. |

I feel the same way. You put it very well, Jay, thank you. We hope for the best but fear the worst.

I haven't commented because I didn't want to be the bad guy here, but I have to wonder if all of this is real? I talked with my therapist about this. She said that often times clients can distort what really goes on in therapy. If you ask the therapist vs what the client reports, it can be two totally different stories.
This has to be the most bizarre therapeutic relationship that I have ever heard of. Did all of this really happen? I find it hard to believe that a therapist can be this ignorant. If she is, I cannot imagine why in the world she still has her license. Just trying to figure this out.......... |

240 of those replies have been yours. the next highest poster has 26 replies, which is less than one a day for a thread started about 6 weeks ago.

Sometimes, Squiggle, the problem isn't ignorance. Sometimes it's arrogance. And yes, clients can and often do distort things but there are some psychologically unhealthy therapists who believe that their status allows them to manipulate clients and get away with it, and the reason they believe this is because people are more likely to believe the therapist than the client, especially if the client has borderline personality disorder or a number of borderline traits.

Conversation with my therapist: Doc: "You know, for the past few weeks you've seemed very disconnected from your emotions when you're here." Me: "I'm not disconnected from my emotions. I just don't feel anything when I'm here." (Pause) Me: "Doc, why are you banging your head against the arm of your chair?" Doc: "Because I'm not close enough to a wall." It's official. I can even make therapists crazy. |

If this therapist has done all of this, she definitely needs to be reported. I would call this borderline abuse of a client. |

It's hard to know what to believe, or to what extent the therapist's words might have been distorted (if they were) when none of us was there to witness this occurring. I think that might be what's so confusing. We're not trying to gang up on you, Cats, we're just stuck between believing or doubting this with no other evidence to prove one way or the other

We are working on how to establish healthy boundaries. She gave me a book to read. During one of our sessions, the therapeutic relationship came up and we discussed why the boundaries are critical to making this relationship work. This is where PC came in. We discussed some of the issues that people in here have talked about. Your situation was one of several that came to mind.

When does someone stop being a victim? When they stop voluteering. (A big resounding NO comes in here) This is as adults mind you and for the most part, I think most posters here are adults (some of our good people are still adolescents). Just something to ponder....

Hello
![]() I have just stumbled across this thread....I usually post in 'romantic feelings for my t' forum but thought I'd look over here....but anyway, I am astonished by the relationship with your t and coming from me, believe me its saying something as I had a very unhealthy relationship with my ex t. I know, from my own pain, that an unhealthy relationship with t can be very very serious and have a terrible impact on your every day life. I dont want to tell you to stop seeing t as I know this is earier said than done and noone has the right to 'tell' you to do this, however, i would urge you to seek advice from another professional. Another thing that strikes me is, you don't really seem that bothered about what's going on but more about how many times your thread is viewed.....why is this important to you condisering whats going on? I can tell you that, when I update my thread, the last thing I am bothered about is how many views I have. I am bothered about the replies i recieve but strictly because I want and need the support. If you need support then fair enough but this seems like a bit of a game going on......I am sorry if I am wrong but it just upsets me because there are ppl (like me) that are really having a tough time and need the support so bad and to think someone isnt taking it (unhealthy relationship with t) serioulsy really plays with me. So I guess all I want to know is, how do YOU feel about your relationship with t? Are you happy to continue therapy with your t? And what can we at PC do to help? Wishing you all the best.....sending you lots of luv and hugs ![]() I know how painful it can be attached to an unethical t....I hope soon you are able to put this to rest and move forward.....whatever you decide to do, I for one will support you but i just need to understand whats going on inside your head ![]() ![]() ![]() |
