Not sure if this has already been posted somewhere, but here goes:
I am now into week two of my T's vacation and doing pretty well.
She does not use email/text to communicate with her patients so I decided to write her a letter just to let her know that I was thinking about her and to tell her a few of the things I had done last week. I liked writing the letter.
Just wanted to know if anyone else writes letters to their Ts when they are on vacation? Thanks!

Thanks for this!

Before there was email (yes, that's true, LOL) there was only pen and paper. I used to write my former Ts letters when I was away or they were away. I liked writing to them too.
Thanks for this!

Yeah, it was weird writing with paper and pen. Where I was I could not print out from computer and my T doesn't receive emails. There was something contemplative and relaxing about using a pen instead of a keyboard. The only downside is that I'm sure my T couldn't read my writing.
Thanks for this!

Yes, I write my T letters regularly, actually. Many I give her, some I don't. I find it very helpful for me to express what I want to say but am uncomfortable speaking directly. I think that putting it into writing helps me clarify what I want to express!

I found myself upset with my T last week and wrote him a letter. It was much better than stuffing the feelings. T responded and it was helpful.

Type out your letter, then print it to read in session? I've done that, vacation or not. I do that whenever I have a hard time bring up something I want to discuss.. I think she probably gets tired of hearing the literary, edited version of my thoughts and wishes for something more spontaneous, like...I don't know...talking about them in person? But the thoughts are getting out, one way or the other, and to me they make more sense on paper.

I have written many, many letters to my therapist in the time I have been seeing her. I find the process of actually writing out my thoughts and feelings very relaxing and knowing that she reads eveything I write is comforting. She has also written letters to me when I have needed something tangible to hold in my hands between sessions especially if I am really struggling with an issue or if she is on vacation and we are missing sessions.
Thanks for this!

Thanks! I also write in a journal and sometimes copy certain entries for my T to read.
Writing does help. I also found that while T is away, I sometimes imagine, just before I go to sleep, that I am in a session with her. I imagine myself telling her about my week and imagine what she would say.
