How long are your sessions? How many times a week do you go and how long has I been that way?

I started out one 40 min session on e a week and quickly moved up to 2x week at 4o min but I feel it's not nearly enough!!

Does anyone do 90 min sessions? Or more freq visits? If so did u or T bring it up?

I do 90 minutes sessions weekly. It just kinda happened. She in private practice and does not overbook clients. She said that one of the main reasons she got into her own practice was that she didn't like to see clients come in and 'spill their guts', and then she had to tell them "time is up" and they had to leave with their feelings a total mess.

She mostly does 60 minute sessions and alot of clients are okay with that. She said it takes me a while to get my words out and I need more 'processing' time. That is why I normally stay 90 minutes. Sometimes an hour and 45 minutes.
Thanks for this!

I used to do 50 or 60 mins twice a week, then for a long time I did one 90 minute session and one 50 minute session a week...now I see T for 90 mins once a week.
Thanks for this!

I go once a week for one 50-minute session. Often T doesn't take a break so it's more like 60 mins, but the billing is for 50 minutes. I've been seeing him for 10 months, and he's in private practice. I've never asked to see him more often, and he hasn't brought it up either.
Thanks for this!

Mine are 60 minutes, twice a week.
Which, some days, is 61 minutes too long, and other days, 360,000 minutes too short!

45 - 60 minutes+, methinks.

He tends to go over quite (and sometimes under) frequently and, to be honest, I have no idea how he knows when to end; there is no clock in the room and his cell phone is usually on the other end of the office. I think he just goes by "When I think X amount of time has passed" or "When I hear someone else waiting and it seems like X amount of time has passed." And, yes, my T is odd. He needs a Blackberry.

I see him once every other week. When I started, it was once a week. T was the one to bring us decreasing our sessions.

60 minutes 3 times a month. I need a break by the end of the month and it's easier financially. I could never emotionally handle twice a week. I admire those who can do that.

50 minutes once a week. Ideally I would go at least twice a week, but he's part time and his schedule just doesn't allow it.

Once a week for 45-50 minutes, although we have occasionally gone an hour. Was every other week for a while, got worse again, and am once a week again

Usually we start right on the dot, and end right on the hour, so 60 minutes. A couple of times he has invited me to stay because he hasn't had a person after me. I have stayed about 20 minutes longer then.

About every other week for around 60 minutes I think. I asked how long the sessions were the first time and he didn't have a definite answer. He usually runs longer than 50 min, which I think is nice. I tend to be a few minutes late though.

With my former T, 50 minutes and hardly ever even a minute over. I hated that! My current T offered me 90 minutes right away when I told her that 50 or 60 minutes seemed too short. She does EMDR and often you need more time for that, so she sees others for 90 minutes also.

I think 40 minutes is way too short!

I eamailed T to ask for longer sessions. Have not got a response back. I could even deal with 60 min but 40 is way too short
I think he likes a lil break in between patients? Idk but I need longer sessions. Even 2 40 min sessions a wk are not enough! I feel like I sit down small chit chat...'kinda go into an issue lightweigt' and he's grabbing his appt book already!
& I'm thinking ALREADY?!
And he NEVER goes over. NEVER! Crisis, regular, nope. I've gone so far and set the stopwatch on my phone, lol. Actually its usually 40 min by the time I get to my car! :/

Would you consider changing Ts? How long have you been seeing him? I know it made a world of difference to me when I started having 90 sessions. When they were 50 minutes, I was always watching the clock and felt like you, that I barely got started and it was time to leave. It's worth changing Ts to have more time, IMO. Good luck.
Thanks for this!

The first interviewy appointment was listed as 45min. I have no idea what she schedules for but it's usually an hour or a bit over when I leave. That was one thing I like, she's not a clock watcher -although the first few times I started into the eyes of the Minute Hand the whole time I think. Now she's moved the clock (sneaky sneaky, T). I noticed last session she was looking at it more than usual but she still didn't rush it. I think she was deciding if she had enough time to bring up the issue I was avoiding from last time. Or maybe she had to pee or something lol

I've been trying to go once a week
Thanks for this!

I see T once a week. The sessions are supposed to be 50 mins, but we almost always go over anywhere from 15mins - 45mins, depending on how the session is going. It takes a bit for me to start talking, so when I do, he does not want it to end . ( T is in private practice, and I never get charged for going over)

Rainbow8- I've been seeing T 4 months now. I guess I would be willing to see a new one if need be but I'm new to therapy and to be honest I don't really know if it's working or not. I like going to my appts, like he's laidback, I can relate to him
Don't like he's a clock watcher and the 40 min thing is killin me. Not sure if he fully gets me? But it's only been 4 months. Aagghhhh I don't know!
I think if I had 90min I could see if we could really get into stuff and judge better...still no email back.. :/

50 minutes, usually once a week. We usually spend the last 5 or 10 mins working out next appointment, paying bill etc.

I'm sorry about your appointments feeling so short and you not getting a response yet. Is T usually good at responding to e-mails? I hope you hear something soon
Thanks for this!

I see T twice a week for 45-60 mins. I've been seeing him for two months. He suggested moving up to 2x a week and I'm happy he did. Plus he is pretty flexible with between session contact. for example...he is taking off for his bday next week, and he offered to do a phone session/check-in with me.
Thanks for this!

my T books us in for 90 minutes, but we rarely ever stay that long, this week the session lasted just under 30 minutes, my other T does 60 minutes and we use that full 60 minutes
Thanks for this!
