I haven't been to therapy for years since pdoc keeps the depression pretty much under control. However, now I realize I need to work out my anxiety issues (particularly about work) with a T. My pdoc was out of the office when I needed an emergency appointment. This associate pdoc (a very soft, warm young woman) was wonderful. I asked if she could recommend any therapists who work with anxiety.

She recommended a T. and I've had about 5 appointments with her. At first I thought we could work together well, then she kept getting off on bunny trails and we never did address my anxiety issues.

When I said I had anxiety issues re: work at our first meeting, she got off on a tangent of "You need to make plans to look into Medicaid/SSI." And talked a lot about that...and to bring a poster next week and we would "plot my journey."

The second visit, with poster in hand, she went on a whole tirade about my last relationship, which I've already come to terms with. Plus looked up all the meds I'm on and got me all scared about a few of them.

Third visit we talked about my past counseling background. We talked about the licensure test and when I told her I've already taken it and passed it (a generally difficult test) she was amazed. She said "Oh, we HAVE to get you back into counseling." Then said she could get me a job tomorrow in an agency she is the director of. She also said "NO WAY" are you going back into your current work environment.

I had to miss the next visit due to illness. When I called to get a reschedule and told her pdoc had released me to work she said "I think you should go to your job." HUH? Not what she said last time. THEN she said (gotta love this) that she was taking some people like 2 hours away to do "Horse Therapy!!" Okaaaaaayyyyyyy. I thought it was riding horses, which I love. Nope. I'm still not sure what it was all about, maybe petting them? AND it cost $150. Like I can afford that?!?

I said I would really be interested in the job she mentioned, and she curtly said "We're not hiring til October." Ok, another turn-around.

So, I told her I really needed an appointment for anxiety. She said her book was full, but would call me for a cancellation - and I can go anytime - even the same day. That was maybe 4 weeks ago and now word.

Guess I need to look for a new T. Very Disappointed in T.

Azalysa,

Yes, It DOES sound like you need to look for a new T!

I hope you find one that actually listens to you, and helps you.

Fortunately I have several friends who are therapists, so I will contact them for some references.

On a humorous note: When I told my mother about the "horse therapy" she said "Will Mr. Ed be there?" That cracked me up.... Very Disappointed in T.

She needs something. I think I be pretty fed up with my T if she pulled that one on me. She didn't even seem to get close to your issues.
Good luck on finding a new T.

I agree, she sounds like she has her own issues. When you find a good T, refer this T to your new one! Very Disappointed in T.
