Is this an okay place to ask a general question about therapy experiences? If not maybe you can tell me a better place, or it can get moved?
I am wondering what responsibility you take upon yourselves to make therapy productive, and what responsibility you place upon the therapist/pdoc? Do you place a heavier burden on the professional? On yourself? Is it 50/50? Thanks for any replies. |

For my t's part I expect her to keep my best interest in mind, push enough but not too much, and use her knowledge and training to help me heal. For my part I expect myself to be open to what t is saying and consider her suggestions (she always says they are suggestions, not requirements.) If I am giving homework, I don't blow it off. I make time for it. I journal almost daily. I make an effort to prepare for appointments. I see it as the majority of the work falling on me. T is there to guide me, but only I can do the work. Did you post it as a separate thread?

Had an interesting conversation tonight at dinner with a friend of mine's mom. She's 70 and she has looked for mother figures all her life. She found one in a lady from the church she attends (that I used to attend). I'm starting to think many people look for mother figures when they feel their childhood was deficient.
I have decided that (so far) there are three rules that seem to be consistent in life: 1. Everyone is crazy (a coworker said another way to say this is "everyone is normal until you get to know them"). 2. Nothing is ever easy. If it's easy, it's not to be trusted. 3. Everybody lies. Yeah, I stole that from Dr. House. ![]() Anybody else have any "rules" for life? H says his rule #1 is "never build a weapon that can think for itself". Yep...see my rule #1. ![]()

I've always said I thought you were my H in disguise. When talking about you to him, I refer to you as his doppelganger.

I have not done well going to bed. I am out of my muscle relaxers (Zanaflex...which knocks me out cold), so I took a back-up muscle relaxer (Soma) which doesn't knock me out, a double dose of Klonopin, and a 7.5/500 Vicodin. I'm still up at 5:00am. Dammit. We're going to the beach at 10:00am.

![]() Me, I've been to the vet this morning with the kittens, to have them neutered... they aren't really kittens any longer, at six months of age the male is almost as large as our old cats were. I have a lot of confidence in our local animal hospital, but am still a little worried, of course, as I wait for the phone call. |

HANKSTER - Just a heads up I talk about pool stuff below..... I had a rule when I used to manage a pool and kids would tell me there was an "emergency" (i.e. their goggles were at the bottom of the diving well). I still use it at work when people tell me their project is an emergency. Pool Rule: Is someone drowning, is someone dying, is the building on fire? No? Then it's not an emergency. My other favorite: Lateness and procrastination on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part.

yes, my 1 yr old Dalmatian keeps me active too. We got her last summer to help with my depression, and boy did it work. She is NUTS!! I often pull her from her crate at 3 am and bring her to bed. H doesn't like it much though. She is laying with her head in my lap right now.
