Three times in my session my T called me by her name(my eX) At first I didn't mind but then the third time I got very annoyed. I din't say anything to T as always and here I am at home getting frustrated by it.
Would this annoy you? |

Do you have similar names?? Wow. I am so sorry that happened.
Yes, that would bother me. I expect my T to know my name. |

Ouch. I guess at least she's remembered your story, just got the names mixed up, rather than calling you by some other random client's name..? Something like that would get to me, too, though - especially as it was three times! If she does it again are you going to bring it up with her? Or, maybe show up wearing a name-tag...

Yes...that would piss me off, big time.
One time I went with my daughter to her rheumatologist that she had been seeing monthly for 11 years. She examined daughter for about 20 minutes, spoke about changing her medication. Then the doc went to her computer to submit a rx to the pharmacy daughter uses. Looked directly at her and said "What's your name?" We were at a different rheumatologist the following month.

Iwill say it to T if it happens again! And another thing I notice is that she looks around the room a lot when I am talking and doesn't usually make a lot of eye contact! This bugs me, maybe I am just being critical now after what I discovered about her but this happened last week too before I knew anything about her! |

But if you don't correct her, how will she learn?

It would absolutely annoy me! Definitely bring it up with her. I know it's difficult, but it's an important discussion to have.
The armchair psychologist in me wonders if she's unconsciously wanting to communicate with your ex (given your recent thread). The seasoned therapy client in me thinks, WTF?? Especially since even when I saw my T 4x a week for 75 minutes each time, he probably never said my name 3x in one session... how many times do you actually use someone's name instead of "you" when talking to them? That also makes me wonder about what I said above, though. Whatever, I don't want to drown you in speculation... definitely bring it up with her! And, I know you already know this, but I'll say it anyway: try to do it as its happening, so you don't have to stew about it on your own ![]() |

Oh dear, this worries me. I hope this is not what she is trying to do. It is kind of odd. I saw my last t for one and a half years and she never called me this so it leaves me confused about this T. She has said some strange things too but also she has pointed out things that my last T didn't notice. Thanks Salli I will certainly bring it up with her so I won't be ruminating about it |

I hope things work out with this T. That's pretty cool that she's already pointing new stuff out, even though you've only seen her a few times. Quote:
