Does anyone have a therapist with a tattoo? If so, what do they have and does it bother you, or would it bother you if at T had a tattoo or even a piercing?

Mine doesn't, that i know of, but pretty sure she doesn't. I think i would be a bit taken aback if i went to one who had a visible tattoo but would it put me off them? Hmmm no i don't *think* so.

No, my T doesn't have one (that's visible), but I would be OK with it if he did.

I work at a hospital and if direct patient care staff have a tattoo, they have to cover it with an armband or other means. It's part of the dress code.

No, (she told me she doesnt) and no it wouldnt bug me, I have tattoos, so it would be a tad hypocritical of me
Question: how or why would a tattoo alter how you feel or think about your T? Sorry, I dont mean to sound dense. I'm just trying to understand the logic behind the question in order to engage with an open mind...
Thanks for this!

I think just 1st impressions, i would initially be a bit taken aback but i would quickly see past it if they were good at their job. I like tattoos and have one myself (not easily seen) but i think for me personally; professionally it's not particularly a good look.

I had a T with a near complete sleeve tattoo. I loved it cause I wasn't looking for a run-of-the-mili, boxy therapist.

If my therapist came into the office with a new tattoo, I'd probably think, "Oh lord, she's having a late-age crisis!" It would be rather unexpected behavior from a rabbi's wife.

But having a therapist with a tattoo wouldn't make me not like them (as long as they weren't something blatantly offensive or provocative). It would make me have assumptions about them that may or may not be accurate, but most would be either neutral or positive.

How it would look? Now see, that's why I didnt get it the first time to me, a tattoo would look like my T is competent in her decision making (permanent ink) and proud of being herself (if it were visible)... Worst case scenario? She made a mistake in her past and she is human...

If my T has a tattoo, it isn't where I can see it which is fine for me. I'm not a big fan of tattoos. I really don't understand the appeal, but to each their own I guess. I probably wouldn't have a problem with a small tattoo on a T, but I know I would have issues with excessive or excessively large tattoos. The same with piercings. Just a huge turn-off for me. (And please don't be offended if you have tattoos or piercings. I'm just being honest about my personal preferences.)

Hmm, she doesn't have any that I've ever noticed. But now that I think about it, it really wouldn't surprise me if she did. (and it wouldn't bother me, I've been thinking about getting one myself) I think I'm going to have to ask her now.

My current T doesn't have any visible tattoos, but my former T did. And no, it wouldn't bother me - I'd actually think it was awesome. Having a visible tattoo/piercing does not make a person trashy or incompetent. That's the stigma we're trying to get rid of.

I have 9 piercings myself - who am I to judge? And for that matter, who is anyone else?

It wouldn't bother me. T has spoke to me about my tattoos on numerous occasions, I think if she did have a tattoo she would perhaps have said... I don't think her having a tattoo would surprise me - there isn't a specific sort of person who gets tattoos anymore - but the type of tattoo might. It would surprise me if it weren't congruent with her image. Tattoos can be classy and stylish and delicate - and if she had one I would expect it to be as such - not all of my tattoos are.. but then I'm not so classy or stylish or delicate

My therapist has a tattoo on her ankle. Peace -then the picture of a heart- Happiness in chinese characters. I saw it during my first appointment.. and I asked her what it stood for and she told me.. She got it in grad school, but said she's lucky because she still believes in it all. I liked it because she's a total soccer mom.. but obviously has lived life. She also curses.. which i think is AWESOME. I have a tattoo.. so it's fine in my book.

I admit to a certain prejudice against a lot of tattoos. I think it comes from starting in the legal profession at a time when the only people I saw with tattoos were the inmates I work with. I know tattoos are more common now, but when I see someone with a tattoo on their neck or their face, the first thing I wonder about them is which institution they were imprisoned in.

So, I guess I'm saying as long as the person didn't have a tattoo on their face or neck, I probably wouldn't care all that much.

I don't think I'd like really visible ones like that either. I'd be totally lying if I said a forehead tattoo wouldn't be concerning to me. Especially if it was one in script they think means "love and peace" when it really means "I'm a giant turkey."

A person's physical appearance, to a certain extent, does reflect on who they are. I don't think it's always bad form judgements based how a person chooses to express themselves.

My psychiatrist has a lot of tattoos on his arms, and he's probably in his 50's or 60's. I think it's cool, it makes it a lot easier for me to open up to him because I assume he is a modern thinker and won't judge you for things that some older adults would judge you for. I'm pretty young though and tattoos are more acceptable in my generation (I'm 19).

My T doesn't have any visable tattoos, but she's sorta a badass, so I wouldn't be surprised if she had a hidden one.

Now I am trying to think of where and what she might have. Hmmm....I'm going to settle on something Buddist-inspired on her shoulder. LOL.

Fun topic!

I doubt if I would notice a tattoo. I might notice piercings but I doubt it. I don't get the appeal of either but if someone wants them, it has nothing to do with me. Several of my friends got tattoos during their mid-life crisis period. If I noticed on the therapist, it would not bother me.

My T doesn't have any tattoos. I don't judge her for NOT having them, though I might like it if she did Really, this is such a generational question. A few decades ago, tattoos were associated with criminals, bikers, hooligans, and prostitutes. Now, almost everyone under 30 has tattoos-- including professionals. Virtually everyone I know has tattoos: I'm a college professor; my sister's a lawyer; my best friend is a businessman. Now, professionals in business suits compare their tattoos and ask one another what they mean. T has also asked me what my tattoos mean and, when I got my most recent one (in a "covered" location), she asked to see it as well. So, T got to the see the new tattoo as well as a little torso and boob (it's on my ribcage). I think tattoos can be silly/immature (butterly tramp stamp), in poor taste (skulls, gang insignia, anything rasist/homophobic)-- or they can carry significant personal meaning. For instance, my most recent tattoo says, in Latin, "the motherless daughter's power lies within." For anyone on PC who knows my story, it makes a lot of sense. It would definitely put me off if someone had a negative opinion about me because they saw my tattoo and made a snap judgment about me as a result. I think T has a much better attitude. She says that she's not of the generation that got tattoos and doesn't want any herself, but she thinks that my tattoos look beautiful on me. They're also part of what make me "me."

It would really depend on the tatoo. If my therapist had a tatoo that said "I hate neurotics", well, that would bother me.
