How many of you work full time and are going through therapy? I see T on tuesdays and go to work before and after my appointments and then I have group session Thursdays and go to work before and after. Its been like this for awhile but its REALLY hard to do. I struggle with going back to work after.
My brain is just not focused on work. But its also not fully focused on therapy either because im "trying" to stay focused on work. I feel like im doing both half ***** all the time. Does anybody else struggle with this? Have any suggestions? |

Yup - I work full time and go to therapy in the middle of my work day. It's hard. My usual appointment time is on a day I work from home, so I can kinda give myself some space to switch in to therapy mode and decompress when I come home. If I have to reschedule for some reason, then I usually only have the 30 minute drive from my office to T's office to switch gears. It is very hard. Usually, at the start of a session, I'll ask T to walk me through a breathing exercise or mindfulness exercise to help me switch gears to therapy mode. After a session, I will usually sit in my car and repeat that same exercise before driving back to the office. It helps to settle my thoughts and switch gears again.

I work full time and go to therapy. My T works in the evening one night a week and most Saturday mornings. I have, on several occasions, seen her during my lunch hour. It could be quite difficult or not too bad, depending on what I discussed. On average, though, I try to avoid midday weekday appointments like the plaugue! Besides being somewhat upsetting at times, I get this weird feeling like everyone at work knows where I went and what I said, even though no one has a clue!

I feel for you. It is hard. I have been very lucky that I am off on Fridays which is my main therapy day. I also see T on Tuesdays between work and school. Those days are harder. I hesitate to go too deep for fear that I will have trouble putting it away.
Is there any way you can have a better timed appointment? I would also definitely try to work with T and see if she can help you transition. |

I see T 2 times a week, at lunch time while working a full time job and yes it is hard.

I work 50+ hrs a week and have t 5-6 hrs a week. Not a big deal.

Yes, I also work fulltime and have T in the middle of the day. At first my co-workers thought I was taking a yoga class before lunch every Monday. Now I think most of them have figured out I see a T at that time. I've had to explain to my boss a few times why I can't attent some work event if it's at the same time.
I find that I really don't get much real work done on T day because my mind is not on work at all. |

i work and go to t. its very hard. she tries to schedule on my days off. but alot of times i go before work.

I work full time, six days a week, and anywhere from forty to sixty hours a week. I see T once a week, and starting next week I will also be attending a weekly group session. I think the plus for me is that my one day off is in the middle of the week, so that is when I see T. The downside of that is I never have a day off just to relax.

Yeah, I work full time, am completing my PhD, and am in therapy. Between work and school, it's at least 60 hours a week; since that has to take priority right now, I think T is a bit on the back burner. But, at the same time, I'm doing quite well so I don't think I really need "more" out of T right now. Over the summer, I may put more emphasis on T when I have a little breathing room.

I work full time and go to therapy in the evenings, twice a week. Sometimes it can feel like a lot but generally it's just fine for me.

i work full time as well as therapy. for many years i had to take off from work every week, at the same time. luckily when i asked my boss if i could do that for an "appointment," he was fine with it. he never inquired further. now, i work at the same company, but two different positions. i go in my break between positions, middle of the day. it is usually fine because i work with 2 year olds

I work full time (50+ hour weeks) but I do get some flexibility. T's office is about 5 minutes from mine.
I usually try to get an appointment near the end of the day so I don't have to go back to work afterwards. But sometimes I have to go in the middle of the day. (We have a small staff and have to take turns closing the building at the end of the day.) It's hard when I have to go back. I usually hold back in those middle of the day sessions. I am afraid of going back to work too emotional.

im glad im not the only one. no one in my group therapy works besides and am sooooo wishing that was me. well, sometimes. id go crazy if i didnt work but on T days my brain screams SLEEP REST RELAX.....blah

I also work full time. Some parts of my schedule are set and parts of it are very last minute. I often teach, go to therapist, then go to court, meet with students etc.
I often do not know whether I will have anything after the therapist or not. Some semesters I have a class after it - some I don't. Last edited by stopdog; Mar 01, 2013 at 12:17 AM. |

work full time and go to t in the evening. i need a day off after t, and cannot go back to work... it takes a long time for my mind to shut off.
i am amazed at those of you who can do this. however, i understand that sometimes we have no options if we like our jobs |

I work full time and see t twice a week right after work mostly. But a couple times a month lately I've had to fit in a lunch time appointment instead. It is very hard before, after and during on those days.

I too work 40+ hours a week and have t once a week, well now 1.25 times a week (we're starting a mini-session partway through the week; this inner work has become relentless, and that little bit of contact with t between sessions helps me keep everything in perspective!)

I loved having sessions late on Friday afternoon and having the weekend to "recover" but then we had to change to the middle of the week and I had to miss half a day and put up with smart aleck comments on my behavior/mood the next day, etc.

i would love to be able to have my group session and then T right after and then have the rest of the day off to decompress.
