RTS - I have heard that from the first therapist I saw a number of years ago. She also said a cynic was a disappointed idealist.
Thanks for this!

Stopdog, what do you think of the cynic statement?

Hankster, yes that is me too... I've been called cynical, sarcastic, ascerbic and that was all before I was 18. I remember having to look up ascerbic and apparently I never learned how to spell it because PC is telling me its wrong and I'm too lazy to look it up...

She was saying it at me. I can see where it could have a certain not lack of validity at times.

Has anyone seen the show Shalom in the Home? It was a show where a Rabbi would work with a family to improve their home life. And there is a part of it where the one person wears an ear piece and can hear the Rabbi telling them what to do? and how to say it differently and stuff?

Well that's what I wish for... just 2 things... a list of this is what you need to do everyday and a person telling me whether I'm doing it right or not... this would simplify so much for me. And like the voice would be either James Earl Jones ish... or maybe a sexy calming voice

Hope everyone has a good day. I'm off to do the things I have on my list today. Hair cut for younger son, shopping for a shirt for his spring concert, buying a new mail box and a new welcome mat... and for poison ivy killer to paint on the poison ivy that is growing in my lilac bush... guess I'll find out if I'm allergic or not...

((( RTS )))

Oh yes, my T mentions the "anger turned inward" stuff often. He wants me to learn how to redirect the feelings outward. It's quite frustrating. I understand it on a process level but can't seem to figure out how to make it happen.

Getting ready to head out to my niece's game....Had a blood sugar crash this morning, so I had to quickly scarf down some food. Gotta love that post-sugar crash recovery period. NOT.

Hope everyone has a good day.

MUE... do you know what you are angry about? T made it sound like its all subconscious... I got a number of conscious things I could be angry about... so does it have to be subconscious?

mostly I'm angry at myself so it doesn't seem to make sense...

This is a real question if you are inclined to answer - I am curious because of how repugnant this sounds to me - why/how would this be a good thing?
I might could get the how to reword what you want to say so that someone might listen - like if I say X - the person hears Y - so how do I reword it to get them to hear X instead. But someone telling me what to do is a such a horrible notion to me that just thinking about it gets me worked up a bit.

Yes SD I think I'm saying two things...Rabbi would teach them how to change their tone of voice or to reword things or approach situations differently to get a different response. This would be helpful to me but honestly I'm tired... I'm tired of trying to figure out how to make things better (whatever the he ll that is) and if someone would just know what I should be doing and just tell me what to do ...at this point I would just do it.

Murray.... I know that feeling... so I decided to pick two outside projects to do well it might be three.. 1. get new mailbox and welcome mat 2. get rid of poison ivy 3. maybe I will buy a flower pot and put some pansy's in by my front step...

Totally doable and it will make me happy to see them when I walk in the door.

Maybe you could think of something small to do that would make you happy now or distract you and would make you smile when you see it or use it...
Thanks for this!

RTS - it is possible you (no matter who was talking in your ear) do not have to power alone to make anything better except for yourself = It may not be an outward thing but an inward thing. Example - a person cannot control their spouse - only their response to their spouse.
Thanks for this!

SD...you sure you are not a T... ughhh boundaries... my T told me to go read the Boundaries in Marriage book AGAIN.

what I really want is a psychic...someone who could tell me either keep hanging on it will be worth it in the end or you would have a much better life if you just got rid of the "baggage"...

Thanks Ready.
I actually have some plants that I purchased the other day and I planned to pot them and I was even quite excited about the idea. Now I am back to wanting to sleep the day away. I know I need to just kick my butt into action and I will feel better.
Granite inspired me to go buy herbs for my deck planters and I also got some lovely flowers. Maybe I will work on them tomorrow.

I can sort of relate to this. I have one person in RL I tell personal stuff to, and he's got a tendency to go "Your thinking is weird, you should try saying X, Y and Z to person A, B and C instead", which is starting to get on my nerves a bit. (He doesn't do it all the time, or even most of the time, but sometimes.) This in contrast to my T, who goes "So if I understand it correctly you are thinking along these lines... why do you think that is? What leads you to that line of thinking?"

So while the notion of someone telling us what to do and say can be attractive, for me at least it doesn't really work.

Er, maybe it wasn't really about the same thing at all. Sorry.

Yes, I have read it before (marriage one)... Actually taught it in bible study and youth group as well (the regular boundaries book).
