I email my T often and it really depends on his schedule or the content of my email. I've had emails responded to almost instantaneously and others that took a couple of days. Usually, the deeper the content, the more thought he puts into a response. Generally though, within a couple of hours.

My T doesn't usually reply at all. He'll discuss it in the session. Occasionally he writes back with a brief response, either immediately, late that evening, or early on a Sunday morning, evidently his email catch-up times.

Like the others said it depends on the emails content. If its a long detailed email, it will take t one or two days to reply because she puts a lit of time into her emailing. If its a short email then a couple of hours!
Are you waiting for a response for long? |

The next morning for email. He's more of a texter now, except the problem with texting is, sometimes he forgets he texted me last, then he texts his evening "appointment" without changing the send-to, so all of a sudden ill get a text out of nowhere that he's on his way! And gee I hate to disappoint him... then I have to apply the heart attack paddles to myself again

Other times, T responded in an hour or up to 48 hours or never, with no consistency. It drove me mad! |

My T has a policy that I'm only to email for scheduling issues. Usually he responds within the day.

Usually by the next day...but depends. I know I can send them and she will get to it as soon as she can.

Mine doesn't check very often so we have a system where I text if I want help and email if I just want to tell her something. If she wants me to email her something like this week then I have started to ask when she is likely to check so I don't get preoccupied with checking for 2 or 3 days until I get a response.

Thanks all for your replies. It seems there is alot of variation as usual between different therapists. Sometimes when I read others responses I feel lucky and like I'm being spoilt for wanting more for T. But it's just the fact that rules seem to change without me knowing about it. If T had some sort of policy around emailing, I would understand it and respect the boundaries. But I have gone from getting thoughtful, reasonable length replies to my emails to getting a brief one saying we can talk about it next session. I'm so confused as to why this has changed. T recently moved away and I have been seeing her every 2 weeks instead of every week and I'm wondering if the payment has something to do with it (although I am paying her the same amount infact as I do double sessions when I am there). But it seems that in the weeks between I don't get much response from T, when infact now I need it more since there is longer between my appointments. Perhaps as I am not paying for that week, that's why I don't get the responses anymore? I don't know. Just feeling sorry for myself and likes she doesn't care as much about me anymore

Maybe as she has moved her schedule has changed some and she no longer has as much time for long replies.

Depends on when and what I email. I've had it be almost instantly to no reply at all. Usually, I can count on T to reply within 24 hours, unless I email her on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday - then she'll reply on Monday.
T tends to reply in the mornings, so I know that if I send something before 8 am, I'll get a reply same day. After 8 am, I may get a reply if she happens to check email and it's something she can reply to quickly or that seems urgent, but there's no guarantee.

It usually takes T a day if it is during the week, Monday- Friday. If I email Friday or on the weekend sometimes I'll get a reply on a Saturday or Sunday night, but typically Monday morning. Sometimes I've got a response in a matter of minutes or a couple of hours, even on the weekend, but it's probably coincidental that's when T checked her email. "Business" related or therapy issues related, the response is usually only a couple of lines.

Moving is one of the most stressful things a person will ever do. From what you say your t seems to have been consistent in her replies, the frequency and content, I think your t is just a little busy right now, she does care or she wouldn't answer at all. Can you try see it that t is busy, she still cares as much but she has a lot going on right now? ![]() Or you could just ask her next time you see her? Btw, I have to pay for emails so that is only reason my t always responds ![]() |

The rule is that now she doesn't respond to my emails unless they're about scheduling. In that case, it's quick, like minutes to a couple of hours.

Usually within a few hours, the longest being a couple of days over the weekend. The general average would be about 6 hours I think.
