Do you ever notice how quickly your T cashes your check?

Do you think it means anything?

Sometimes my T cashes it the same day and I think, gosh she must be broke.

Or maybe she knows I am broke and wants to get her money before I run out!
Thanks for this!

Cheques are pretty much redundant over here. It's either cash or card, and cash is pretty unpopular too.

I haven't met a t who took a credit card payment yet. I always use a check too. Most professionals have certain days they make deposits on. Sometimes that would be every day if they get enough checks. Some people pay full price, I wouldn't let a few hundred dollars sit around my office overnight!

These may or may not be credit card payments I meant EFTPOS which you have choice of savings or credit.

What happens if you don't have a cheque account? What if your income isn't enough? Over here if don't earn enough for a cheque account there is no way you'll get a credit card. Well it used to be that way, it could all have changed.

On many systems, checks go through the moment the are posted to the businesses system, pretty much just the same as using a card.

My T seems to cash checks about once a month. So depending on when my session was, it may be cashed soon or sometimes not for a few weeks. I have always paid my T either by cash or check. If one doesn't have a checking account, it seems like all Ts would take cash. Nothing better than cash!

T mentioned once that he gets a ton of small checks. For each of my visits he gets a copay check from me and then one from my insurance company. And that's just for one hour of his week.

I think my T uses that function that some banks have with smart phone apps where you can deposit it by taking a picture of the check .... it clears fast too..

Mine did billing once a month (he didn't process insurance), so after I'd get the handwritten statement, I'd bring a check to my next session. I never noticed when it was deposited.

I pay by debit almost all the time, but I have paid by check a couple of times. I think it was deposited within 2-3 days. My T works in a counseling group that has several people who work in the office that are not Ts, intake coordinator, office manager, and another person. So, they handle that stuff not my T. I would not take anything having to do with deposit time personally, as my T has nothing to do with that.

I am an accountant and encourage my clients to deposit checks daily. It is a fraud prevention measure. For me personally, I deposit checks quickly because I don't want to have to deal with too many checks at once. I suspect your Ts banking habits have more to do with bookkeeping practices than needing the money.

I don't think that the quickness of when the T cashes a check means anything. I think it might be something personal with them, whatever works for them to keep track of the checks and get them deposited. My T sometimes cashes them quickly, other times she waits and cashes more than one at a time. I have paid cash before, so that I wouldn't agonize over that outstanding check (or 2), but that didn't work well because my T didn't give me a receipt once and then we disagreed about whether I had paid. I was certain that I had and she accepted that I had and that she didn't write out a receipt. As I often have financial issues, it was really uncomfortable so I haven't paid with cash since.
Thanks for this!

I've never used a check... So no, I don't. Money transfer at the end of month.
Gee I trust my T with much more, so I guess he can trust me with this little...
Talk to her about it if it bothers you

BPA...here if you have an income, you most likely have a checking account. They are generally free if you set up auto deposit with your employer. If you don't have a bank account, it can be quite expensive to cash checks. With a checking account, you usually get a debit card that has a credit card logo on it, so it can be used like a credit card, but the money comes right out of your account.

They have a lot of accounting to do; everyone giving them checks they have to carry around, etc.? Mine got so she was losing mine every now and then and wanting me to cancel the check and then she'd call in a panic and say she'd found it, etc. They have a business to run and if you have trouble paying your bills, think if you had to keep track of 20-50 accounts or something?

Honestly it varies, my new T cashed the first check the day I gave it to her... My previous T usually took a few days. My marriage T also normally takes a few days... I suppose they wait to have enough checks to deposit.
Thanks for this!

I pay cash to my T. But I want to answer this from the other side, as I work freelance and sometimes get paid by cheque.

I cash cheques quickly because otherwise I forget, or lose them, and because I think it's poor etiquette to hold onto them for ages. This is especially true with small businesses.

In the case of a therapy client, who is simply an individual person, I think it would be very poor of your T to wait ages to cash it, because you'd have to make sure you didn't spend the money. It's efficient to do it quickly.

But, depending on how a T runs their business, they might find it works best if they cash them at certain points in the week or month.
Thanks for this!

The woman mocked my handwriting on my checks early on, so now I just toss cash at her and leave.

Is she sight-impaired?

I might have printed the next checks in great big capital letters, and told her I took extra care to make sure she was able to read them....
