My T only takes cash or check. She has no way of taking credit/debit card payments. She only works 2 days a week, so I guess she doesn't have enough clients to make it worthwhile to have a card reader thing.

I paid my copay in cash the first time and T made the comment that she hoped she didn't accidently spend it before putting it into her business account. So I have paid by check ever since (2 years now). My appointments are usually on Tuesdays and the check with post to my account on Thursday or Friday, so I guess it's a couple days for her. I assume that she probably deposits all of them on Wednesday or so after the 2 days she works are over.

I wish you had a more helpful T, stopdog, I really do.
Thanks for this!

My T deposits checks once a month near the end of the month. I assume she takes all the checks she gets for the month and deposits them on one day. That means some checks she has for three weeks while sometimes she only has a check for one or two days before deposit.

I pay cash at the end of the session...BUT I strongly considered asking him at the beginning if I could just pay first before the session started. I decided against it because I was afraid my T would read into it and want to know why. I didn't really know why for sure, but was concerned it might have been a control thing with me so I chose to ignore it and just pay at the end...

No - it is my handwriting she was mocking, not the letter size. No one has ever had difficulty in actually cashing the checks I have given them(I have written several each month for over 30 years). The other one I see has no problem with the writing on the check.

I wouldn't want to pay on the way in - I'm paying for the session, not just the privilege of being allowed into the room.

I might have printed the next checks in great big capital letters, and told her I took extra care to make sure she was able to read them....

Thanks. Yeah, I was just being facetious because the woman has no taste or tact to make any comment at all about your handwriting.
Thanks for this!

I used to pay at the end of session, but then forgot a couple of times because I was really out of it at the end of session, so I started to do it at the beginning of session.

I work freelance and I cash checks almost immediately before I have a chance to lose them.

When I have evening appointments and the receptionist is not there, I pay T at the end of the session. When I go during the day & the receptionist is there when I arrive, I pay her when I get there. I don't like stopping at the front desk when there are other people around. I'm usually so far into my own head that I don't want to make conversation.

Actually, I try to pay before my session (he has a secretary) because sometimes at the end of the session I've been crying or I'm upset, etc., and the last thing I want to do is talk to someone. If I take care of payment ahead of time, I can just leave directly.
Thanks for this!

It's your T's job to remember, not yours, IMO. If you forget they should remind you.

Totally hear you on this but I find the process of getting the money out and giving it to my T can actually help calm/ground me.
