We have two turntables. One modern player for vinyl, one hand-cranked from the 1930s for 78rpm records - the latter I inherited (together with about a dozen shellac records) from a relative who was born in 1904 and died in 1905. She gave us the record player when she had to move from her flat in 1997; we used it quite a bit to begin with, but now it's been living in storage in the garage for a while. A couple of weeks ago, when I set up my bookbinding corner, I started using the old gramophone again. It's rather soothing, working on a book while listening to scratchy evergreens.
Thanks for this!

Morning couch.

Just popping in before work at the senior place. They called last night saying they wanted to "sleep in" and asked if I could come in an hour later than usual. That works. Give me more time to relax in the morning and wake up all the way.

Lola, drive-thru alcoholic drinks? Wow, that's a step above what I thought was weird in the town I went to college in...a drive thru liquior store. Gotta love Texas and Florida for encouraging DUIs. I wonder how many other states have these?

Well...my mom is pissed off at me because of something I did. Hopefully it will blow over soon. I was on her/my step dad's cellular account, but decided I wanted my own account, so I could eventually get a smartphone when it was time to upgrade in a few months. So...I took myself off their plan and opened my own account. It's not like it ruins their family plan. A family plan is 3-5 numbers...they have 4 other phones on the account besides mine...so they still get their family discount. It actually saves them money as they don't have to pay for my additional line anymore. Whatever.

Well...I need to go eat breakfast. I'll pop back in after work. I hope everyone has a good day.

I love that scratchy sound! New artists pay my H good money to make their tracks sound like that...so warm.

That I get more for my money with conventional stuff?

I am too cynical to think anything has not been touched by all the pesticides etc. I think it is in the ground and rain and air.

Trying really hard to start eating breakfast. Not sure how many WikiPoints I get because we were almost out of milk, so I used a combo of milk and French Vanilla coffee creamer. LOL. It was really sweet.

Speaking of sugar, though, how is your blood sugar doing, Granite? Stabilizing?

I am not a big cereal fan except sometimes I get on a muesli kick. I always use yoghurt instead of milk with a banana mushed in for the sweetening part. I never eat cereal fast enough for milk not to make it soggy.

I like it soggy, so I have to wait for the milk to soak in before I can eat.

I used to eat grapenuts and would have to mix those with the yogurt before I took my shower so they would be soft enough to eat. Grape nuts were seriously like eating little rocks until softened some, I found. I liked them sometimes but never could finish a whole box before I would get off that particular kick. And I was never with a lover who would eat them with me. My lovers have usually liked cheerios - a cereal I despise.
Cereal compatibility is now on my checklist.

I am roasting okra right now - it is good and not slimy. I usually put it in stew or soup or a couple of indian dishes.

Yeah, when I'm on a grapenuts kick, I actually put a bowl of them with milk in the refrigerator that night before. LOL.

I have this weird random memory of my mother forcing us to eat our cereal really fast so we would have plenty of time to do "chores" before we left for school. I would have cuts on my gums from the cereal and nausea from eating so fast. I hated that. Probably part of my aversion to breakfast now.

In true depressed healed fashion I have been hiding in my bedroom sleeping for the weekend. Skipped church this morning and then was forced out of my house for groceries by my hungry kids and h. H and I are avoiding each other and this is the easiest way to do it. I am pretty sure our MC is going to be quit surprised at our next appointment this Thursday!

hey all... I love Food For Life Ezekiel 4:9 Sprouted Whole Grain Cereal (very similar to grapenuts) but I eat them hot...a bit of boiling water, a mashed banana...sometimes a drop of maple syrup. Yum.

Stopdog...there is definitely a difference between organic and not. If my daughter eats non organic produce she has a bad reaction. Auto-immune disease is the result pesticides in our food.

Hi Granite. How did your scrapbooking (or was it paper marbling?) time go this weekend?

We had a fun family time last night to celebrate our son's 17th birthday. Today involved the laundromat ... with lots of dirty camp clothes since both son's were away at "overnight' summer camps but it went faster because I washed and dried there... and then packing my older son to go away to another "overnight" summer camp. Financially its a sacrafice to send them but they LOVE it

I have never done a "cleanse"... not sure the crapping 20 times is something I would appreciate... but maybe you feel better after you are done the cleanse? sounds horrific like people talk about when preparing for a colonoscopy...

I woke up at 8 am this morning but went back to sleep till 10am and inbetween that time I dreamt about my FOO.... nothing in the dreams were bad... or even sad for that matter...

I woke up so ANGRY... and CRANKY.... and I just wanted to PUNCH something... so my H was so kind as to cover himself with pillows and told me to have at it... First it felt so good to release that built up anger and it felt good to tell H what I was feeling and he took it at face value and didn't try to understand it (cause logically I couldn't explain it) and best of all didn't try to "make me happy" or "fix it"... my H said he thinks I should take up boxing or kickboxing... I think I definitely have some repressed anger inside me...felt good to let just a little out even if I don't know who or what I was angry with.

My mother calls them Crap-Nuts. She does have her funny moments. You remember of course the guy that invented them, Euell Gibbons, was a health nut who died of "natural" causes - which I thought they were making a pun or a joke.

Decided to break out of my bedroom and go on a 7 1/2 mile bike ride...I was fairly certain at times on my ride that I would die. I made it...10 minutes slower than my usual time (from last summer) but I did!!
