OMG i was so nervous for the session today, because i was going to have a final plead with my t about getting tested for a LD. And guess what!!! She agreed! She talked to my parents about setting up an appointment and she got them to agree to it! They wrote to the professional that t recommended to set up an appointment! I can't believe it, its like a weight lifted off my shoulders. i didn't know that i could be so happy about possibly getting another diagnosis, but I am so relieved. Thank you t! Finally I might get some answers to the problems i've been having!

That's awesome. Hopefully your questions will be answered and you can get the assistance you need.

Warning.... I was exhausted after all the testing.
I went home, ate sweets, and took a nap!
Thanks for this!

Besides logic...it took courage, assertiveness, persuasiveness, and self-control.

Congratulations!

Miswimmy,
I am SO proud of you for being so assertive! I am looking forward to hearing how it goes, although I know it won't be for awhile.

Good job! If you have the option to spread out the testing over two or three days, I would do that. I did it all in one day and it was HARD to stay focused. Or maybe that was just my ADD...ha!

They offered all in one day or spread out into two. I picked two. Cuz 7 hrs of testing with ADHD sounds like my brain will be fried

So basically it's 1800$ for testing

The first session is a meeting
The second and third are the actual testing (about 4hrs per day and everything from IQ to reading to whatever they do)
The fourth is a follow up with results and suggestions for treatment/accommodations/etc if diagnosed

Is this typical?

We had neuropsychological testing done maybe five years ago and my recollection is that it was just like you described.
Thanks for this!

That's what my test and evaluation cost. My insurance paid half of the 1800. If you go to a provider that is in network, they might cover 80-100% of the cost.
Thanks for this!

Oh one more thing, make sure they do the shapes test, I think its called the visual learning aptitude part. You need that to get accommodations on any standardized test. Some evaluators don't do the visual test and it's just better to cover all your bases in one fell swoop.
Thanks for this!

As I've mentioned before on this board, I'm a certified Spanish Medical Interpreter. We book interpreters for 4 hours for the testing (I've never interpreted the test itself). The evaluators here are PhD-level experts in administering this test. I just happened to interpret for a mother yesterday for the 'feedback' session --it usually takes an hour. The evaluations I've been involved in have only involved small children, so the feedback session is conducted only with parents --I don't know how it works with someone your age.

It involves comprehensive psychological testing, but also cognitive, learning. Yesterday, the psychologist was talking about, amongst other things, reading (including ability to pull out main ideas), writing, sounding out words (speech/language), completing tasks within a certain time period. I believe mathematical ability was also mentioned. But I've heard from others that it's extremely comprehensive: learning, other cognitive function, IQ, psychological issues (depression, anxiety, etc. and what's behind them).

I think it's a great idea you're being tested. It's my understanding that, at least with an expert evaluator, it is as good as it gets as far determining strengths and weaknesses along many fronts and recommendations as to how to help with deficits/weaknesses -cognitively and psychologically.

The two times I've interpreted feedback, the evaluator has offered and documented detailed recommendations and were willing to talk to the schools if they had any questions or disagreed. These cases, however, were all children and involved the IEP. However, presumably, the same would apply to where you are in your education.

Good luck!!
Thanks for this!
