Yup.... she will watch the kids so the parents can go out alone. It happens all the time in the US.

Hmm. I don't actually know what constitutes a "date" - I don't think I've been on one - but I thought it meant to go out with somebody you're romantically interested in before you are living together? Isn't it pretty much a contradiction in terms to talk about going on a date with your spouse? (And why does it make me dizzy and nauseous even to write about that kind of stuff here?)

Edited to add - Lola's post wasn't there when I wrote mine. Ok, then I understand. Of course parents get babysitters so they can do stuff together here, too, but I did not know that was included in the "dating" concept. It sounds dreadful to me, but what do I know.

Yeah, it's an American thing. We can't just make time for each other without having to designate a time and give it a name .

TRIGGER: for mild vilolence and crime talk

Haha, I looked closer at my jury summons and it says you can be excused for physical or mental illness. I wonder if "my" mental illness would qualify? Probably not since I am functional and can hold down a job, but it's worth wishing. I see pdoc on Monday, maybe I should ask him if he thinks I am capable of serving on a jury. I'm afraid he will say yes, but it's still worth asking. Maybe I will get lucky and can submit a note from him to be excused.

They also ask 4 other questions (besides the are you or a member of your family a felon) that all the answers for me are yes to. Maybe enough of them piled together will make them look at me and say "h e l l no!"

None of them are a yes for me personally, but they are for my dad or mom or brother, and the questions ask you or anyone in your immediate family.

Here are the other questions I have to answser "yes" to:

1. Have you or a member of your immediate family been convicted of a crime? (yes, both my dad and my mom were taken to trial for several DUIs and my brother for driving on a revoked license and drug possesion)

2. Have you or any member of your immediate family been a victim of crime? (yes, my dad had his truck stolen and my brother was jumped and beat with a baseball bat and had to go to the hospital)

3. Have you or a member of your immediate family been sued? (yes, when my dad coached a little league team and a kid broke him arm because he tripped and fell, the parents sued my dad for not keeping their child "safe")

4. Have you or a member of your immediate family sued another person and/or company? (yes, my dad has sued twice...he owns his own construction business and sued a customer for not paying for the service they received after being sent bills for 6 months...and he sued another local business for using the copyrighted image in his business's logo for they company and for them using a similar name as my dad's business, same name, only an "s" added to one of the words).

Too bad I am not related to (or friends with) a law enforcement officer...that is also a question.

D A M N it! Just got a call from my pdoc's office saying due to a medical emergency, pdoc will not be in the office on Monday, so they needed to reschedule my appointment. I am doing fine, so that is not an issue...just they didn't have anything until the new year and when it is scheduled for is after the date I would have to submit a dr. note to be excused from jury duty. Guess that one won't work.

Squirrel, i think those are enough to disqualify you because a lot of the cases are about suing so they dont want someone predisposed either way. I hope you can get disqualified without having to show up, for convenience sake.
Thanks for this!

Well...I decided to email pdoc and ask if he thought I was capable of serving on a jury. I explained that I was going to ask him Monday, but now I can't and that my rescheduled appointment is after the date I would have to send documentation in if he did feel I was "unfit" to serve. Hopefully he will respond. Wishful thinking, but it worth a try.

Squirrel, I wonder if he can just provide you with a note and you can just stop by the office and get it from the reception desk?

That's what I am hoping. But I am afraid he is probably going to say I am capable of serving since I can hold down a job. It's worth asking though..."just in case"?

Hi couch! I hope everyone is well. I've had a crazy busy week. We're supposed to have sin where tomorrow, so I'm staying to catch up on some things like decorating and laundry and baking and stuff.

Hello folks.

Busy day. Worked then ran errands after work. I'm just settling down.

Mast and CE-like Lola and Sally explained-The parents will go out alone and I will watch the kids. Married couples consider going out alone without the kids a "Date Night". Those nights in this particular family are few and far between. They only ask me to do it 1 night a month. However, the family I had before this did it every weekend. To each their own, I guess..

Healed:Glad you had a good T appt.

CC good to see you. I'm sorry your anxiety is so high. It's a terrible feeling.

MUE-sorry your so busy. I'm glad you checked in

Granite-Girl!

Ready-I've done a few workbooks in the past, some were helpful. Hope it's helpful for you.

Wiki-Glad mom is moved in. I'm glad your making her get used to it. This is good. You need your home for you hubby and kids.

Squirrel-Hope P doc can give you a note for Jury duty

CE-lots of people get wrapped up in their own stuff. It can get lonely when friends don't come thru. Sorry.

Mast-Hope your okay.

Critter:Nice to see you after all week.

SP:I'm happy for you and that your T had a positive response to you wanting to be a T.

Hello EVERYONE.
