"Day #5
Hello everyone. First o all, I hope you all are having a good start into this new week. I hope it's filled with good things. Last night I watched probably one of the most emotional documentaries I have ever seen: "Nicki's family". If you haven't seen it, then I have to tell you: YOU HAVE TO SEE IT! It tells the almost forgotten story of Nicholas Winton, who in 1939 just before the second World War broke out, saved almost 700 children from certain death by transporting them out of the Czechoslovakia into England and finding them foster homes so they would be safe. What I found fascinating were that this incredible act of love was almost forgotten until Nicholas Winton's wife found his scrapbook that held the list of names of the children, pictures, letters, documents etc. 50 (!!) years later. His own wife didn't know that he had saved the lives of so many children in his early 20s. When the story became known, reporters found more than 200 of those saved children who for the first time knew who saved them. And what I found even more fascinating, and what in a way proves my point that with each and everyone's individual (painful) story, can come incredible goodness - was the effect on today. Of the 260 saved children they identified, they counted that there are more than 5000 descendants today. A representable number of those descendants and the saved children themselves have turned their stories into good. They build housing for mentally disabled people, they built one of the biggest help organisations for children in Cambodia, they became servants for the people as teachers, pastors, charity founders. Their impact on this world is huge and growing..It showed that from every incredibly painful story (most of these children lost their whole families in concentration camps) can come incredible stories that change the world. Anyway, it was great to watch and it made me smile to know that Nicholas Winton is still alive, 104 years old ![]() It also made me think once again... no, I am not the center of the universe, there are so many people suffering and they make the best out of their situations and seeing that makes me so very humble. It also makes me mad that I don't have the opportunity any more to make a greater impact on this world, to do something for the greater good. Watching that documentary made me want to jump out of my bed and do something! I lay awake all night wondering what I can still do in my situation. This morning I decided that what I can do is to give money to people who can do something good so I will talk to my lawyer and make him add a few people and charities to my will. I know this woman who is left alone by her children, suffering from breast cancer. Her landlords have threatened to kick her out of her apartment so I will ask my lawyer to pay her rent for a few months. It's true, it's a selfish gift - because it makes me feel very good. But if it helps her concentrate on her recovery, then that's very good too and I feel I have done something to help. Well, that's my good deed for today. I have a busy day ahead, so keep me in your hearts and prayers please. Lots of love, Amelia"

Amy you are such an amazing person.
Do you realize how many lives you are affecting everyday by posting your letters here and sending them to your friends and loved ones?? I for one have come to realize just how short life is and that we need to make every moment count. You have also helped me to see that no matter how ones story starts out there is always hope that they can turn it all around. The last few days have been hard for me but then I look at YOUR strength during such a difficult time and I realize I can get through this...

Amelia, thank you for sharing the inspirational life of Nicholas Winton. I'm going to look for it.
You ARE doing something to benefit mankind by posting on this forum, just like nottrustin said. I wonder if your writings could be made into a book so even more people could benefit from them. I hope your day goes well! ![]() |

Thanks everyone, you are very sweet! I appreciate your words and encouragement a lot.
I still wish I could do much more. I was never someone who could sit still and now I am forced to do just that.. It's annoying! ![]() So sharing with you guys here at least is something! And it is motivating me to still try my best every day, and that is simply invaluable.

Amy. Before I met you here I thought that kind of great love you show in your messages was something that only existed in legends. I thought it was something like the unicorns; I could read stories about it and see movies about it but I would never really come across it. But I'm glad you have proven I was wrong. You have really made a BIG impression on me. Thank you so much for everything.
With love, Dannni |

"She held me in her arms for a while and I fell asleep to her heartbeat."
Not weird at all Amelia. It is lovely and I am so glad your therapist is willing to give you what you need. I needed that at times when I was in therapy and my therapist was willing to provide it for me. I had no one else in my life at the time to provide what I needed and never had as a child. It was heavenly and very healing. I look forward to reading your daily journal. Your spirit through out this time touches my heart more than you'll ever know. It encourages me to try to make a difference in at least one person's life on a daily basis. My tolerance and understanding of people increases steadily. Thank you for sharing with us, with me. You matter to me - a lot. GTGT |

"Day #6
Thank you for all the wonderful feedback to my email yesterday. I am thankful that you share this journey with me so intimately and close. I was thinking about what to write today, and when I woke up this morning I knew I want to tell you another story of my life and how it has transformed me and others. It feels this is a good way to look back at some things and reflect so thank you for giving me this opportunity. I have a little friend, Rosalie, who was born without an immune system. (Well, it's a little more complicated but this is the simplest way to put this). I met her first, when she was two years old in the children's hospital in London. I had befriended her parents and her bigger sister who was three years old at that time. The moment I saw Rosalie, I fell in love with this little girl. She was very aware of her surroundings, was bubbly and playful. But she was in isolation, so she was hardly ever held for the first two years of her life because of the risk for infection. A few days after her parents were told that Rosalie would die within a week, Rosalie suddenly woke up and started to talk and was all lively. For some miraculous reason the bone marrow transplant she received from her sister had started to take (one of the most unusual cases at Great Ormond Street hospital) and she was growing healthier and healthier with every day. Today she is 14 years old and really, she is one of the best people I know in this world. She also turned her story into something amazing. When I was sick in hospital, 4 year old Rosalie climbed into the bed with me and put her little hand on my head and said: "Please God make Amelia better!" Within days my infection healed up and I could leave the hospital. It was like her energy had invaded my body and made me heal faster. And I also believe her faith had a lot to do with that. When she was 7 and I had a really difficult time, she sat outside in front of her house with me and told me that there is nothing to be afraid of because the world doesn't take things from us, put people do it. She said: "Amelia, if you reach out your hand and ask for what you want, you can be sure to get it. Don't be sad, there is more love in the world than bad things." She is so wise.. And I know, Rosalie, you are reading this now and I can see your face cringe ![]() I think I will conclude my email for today. Oh but I want to tell you quickly that I am looking forward to a very special guest to visit me tomorrow. I can hardly wait! Much much love, Amelia"

Your not giving yourself enough credit. It would be interesting and inspiring. You've touched a lot of people here on PC. The average person doesn't reach out and help a stranger on the street or pay someone's rent. Most people would look away from the homeless man or think its sad she got kicked out of her apartment but not do anything to help.
