So emdr worked well my first session. It was phenomenal. Four sessions later it lost it's effect. I've tried doing emdr by myself to see why it hasn't been working lately. I got it to work on my own. What should I tell my emdr therapist? I don't want her to tell me to stop if our sessions keep becoming a dud.

Please help!!

Hello, Rara200284. Do you want to continue seeing your therapist? If so, perhaps your therapist might learn from you?

I would doubt it and so what if they did? Why tell them if you think they will?

I totally agree with GLOK - you and your therapist are a TEAM so she needs to know what works for you!!

I think that's great you got it to work on your own...I think you should share with your T what you did so you and your T can work together on EMDR. I don't think she will get mad either, p.s.

I've seen some YouTube videos for self EMDR. A few of them had many positive comments.

It's probably best to share this info with your T. The the reprocessing can be dangerous if done incorrectly, too often, or too fast. It may feel comfortable but you never really know.

Question about your experience... Do you know why it stopped working with your T? Is there something that is different?
Have you experienced any of the side effects of EMDR? That's what makes me most nervous about starting. =\

My first session, my body felt like it was experiencing a trauma when she waved her fingers. The second session, it had no effect on me. The 3rd and 4th we used the tappers(vibrators) not much progress in my opinion. I couldn't get entranced. I did not want to keep wait every 6 days and pay lots of money just to see what works and didn't work. So I did a lot of home experiments which I'm sure an emdr t would suggest against, but I was so sick of feeling depressed.
The first session I had with my t was amazing. My depression went from a 9 to a 1. And slowly it rose up to a 6 recently. My level of depression will never be a 9 again thanks to that first session. She said I was making progress 2,3 and 4 but I knew I wasn't really. Thankfully, I figured what triggers me into trauma mode on my own so I can bring those forethoughts with me to my next EMDR session.

I really recommend looking into EMDR. There are people who post side effects but it's worth the risk. I don't know how some people have bad experiences. It works so well in my opinion. Sometimes it's hard to trigger the trauma but when it happens, I feel great when i leave.

Check out the link in my signature. There isn't much there yet, but please post and maybe we can build an emdr community linked to here.
