Just curious how often other people think of their T. By thinking of your T, I mean thinking of even just their name and face, so anytime you think of your T please count it here, even if you are not imaging their life etc.

I don't think about my T like about a person, but I think very often about the past/future session and what I'll tell my T and sometimes how she might react - does it count?

Yes, please count any time you think of them in any capacity at all.

I think of therapists as a group more than I think about the specific ones I see. Because it is summer and I don't teach much in the summer, I spend more time on my own practice which is mostly representing clients in various suits where therapists and psychiatrists are the opponents. In the school year, I teach students how to anticipate and handle therapists and psychiatrists and their wily ways. So a great deal of time is spent thinking about how to best handle them in various situations to one's (and one's clients) advantage.

Of course, my profession helps me handle the therapists too. Some of their tricks make me wonder how stupid they think clients are. It is fun to call them on it and watch them think about what to do. I sometimes even ask if a certain technique really works with others and if they know why? The first usually gets all snippy and defensive, the second one I see is usually willing to laugh at herself. Quote:
And as for insurance - it depends.

I have a near-constant running dialog in my head.

Probably several times a day, but usually just fleetingly most of the time unless I'm posting about him or making an appointment or something.

Exactly. At my last session I told my therapist this and he helped me figure out how to manage it (I hate feeling so distracted all the time.) Interestingly, he doesn't think I'm talking to *him* but actually a part of myself. I'm not sure I agree. He suggested I think of someone else to talk to in my head but I'm finding it difficult to break the habit. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I spend way too much time thinking about him. It's glaringly obvious something is missing from my life.

I usually have a dialogue in my head but it is not directed at the therapists but me talking to me. I think I am brilliant, insightful and eventually can figure most challenges out. Sometimes I pretend I am a character in a favorite book and try to think or talk to myself like that character. I also talk a lot to the dogs aloud (talking to pets does not make you look as crazy as talking out loud to yourself with no pets or humans around. Not being a plant person - I consider talking to them to be nuts.).

It depends if I'm struggling through something , or if I skip a week of therapy. I think of her often wishing I was in session .

As much as I need too. It's about internal processes.

I said once a day for the poll but I think it's more often than that. Sometimes I think of her several times a day. I think about her when I'm reading this forum so that already raises the number a lot!

it depends on my strss level. Much of the time I am trying to remember somethign T told me in relation to getting through the stress, or how to handle a particular situation... Lately, it's been several times a day because I am struggling quite a bit. But when I am more level, it's only at times that I would appreciate her input on things.

I put several times a day. I'm often either annoyed about something, replaying something comforting or wanting to contact him.

Interesting question. I put once a day. It varies, sometimes I don't think of her for much longer, especially if I'm missing sessions, and then I'll be surprised that I haven't thought of her much for a while.

It's more complicated than just simply saying hourly. I don't think about her all the time at all, but I don't think to myself. I think to other people. I imagine myself talking to someone else when I think. She is the someone else. Because of this, I am thinking about her constantly but at the same time, I'm really only thinking of her as a person and things directly related to her a few times a day. Thinking of her as a main subject and not a backdrop.
I wonder how much she thinks of me |

Well, thank the lord my t isn't wily! I feel bad for those who have to sue their therapists or psychiatrists.

I'm just thinking that isn't it because we (I mean "I") read and post here? Like when I read someone's post I think how my T would react, what she would say etc. while when i do not use the forum, I have a meeting, go for a trip etc. I don't think so much about my T... On the other hand it might opposite, i.e. I read and post here a lot because I think too much about my T, so I have the urge to share some stories about her or to read about others' experiences...

I can tell when my therapist is 'trying something' but for the sake of my self, I play along as best I can, as long as I feel its appropriate. If one goes for say, physical therapy, does it matter if you know that the therapist is manipulating and stretching your muscles? You are there on your own free will. To a certain extent you have put your trust in their abilities. |
