I just came home from my last Counseling Techniques II class! That means.... I am done with all my core classes!!! All I have left is 3 electives (I'm taking one as a week-long infrasession in April), and my internship. I will graduate a year from this May. This semester has been one of the hardest of my life. I still have my Culture and Gender class until April, and then the Group Therapy infrasession class. Then the new semsester starts in May. I went through one of the deepest, longest depressions I have ever had, for six weeks during this semester. On top of that, there are the usual mood swings and horrible anxiety. And although it was quite a scramble, I pushed the hell out of myself, and managed to get all of my work done for this class, and now it's done.

For a small moment, I'm feeling good about myself Not exactly therapy related, but had to share!!

What a wonderful relief for you, pinksoil. I'm in the middle of two classes, one of which is "performance" based the second week of April so I'm beginning to sweat that one.

That's great pinksoil! Will you go to work as a counselor now? Any plans to continue further?

I have 5 classes left, and then practicum and internship. I'm looking forward to it but getting more and more nervous too. And I really enjoy most of my classes. I do learn a lot, and quite a bit I can use for understanding myself. I also find that I use my personal experience a lot in classes too. How about you?

I am starting Practicum/Internship in May. I'm so nervous about starting something so new and leaving what I refer to as my "comfort triangle"-- school, work, and home. Going to school to become a therapist while being on both sides of the situation-- as client and therapist-- has been incredible. Both sides feed each other, and I feel like it's essential to go to therapy if you want to be a therapist. You gain a much deeper understanding.

I'm applying for the doctoral program in a couple of months, with hopes to start in the fall of '08. If I don't get in then I will sit for the licensing exam to become an LPC. But I really, really, really hope I get in. Not exactly therapy related, but had to share!!

What are your plans?

I'm strongly considering applying to doctoral programs to start in '08 too. I would have to start my internship early in order to be finished by then (which is doable). Otherwise the end of my internship would overlap for a couple of months, if I did happen to get accepted.

It is incredible to be on both sides of it, isn't it? I can't imagine either side being complete without the added perspective from knowing both sides. In fact, when I was in therapy before, I don't think that I understood the process and that might have been why I never made much progress.
