I see someone in private practice now, and she isn't quite full-time, so I think her caseload is somewhat smaller than average. I know she works four days a week and doesn't start first thing in the morning, and I've never encountered another client of hers coming or going so I'm assuming she has a significant gap in between clients. She definitely seems to have a better memory for what I've talked about with her compared to other counsellors I've seen, which may well be due to the fact that she doesn't see as many people.

I'm torn between being curious about her caseload and not wanting to think about it. If it turned out to be larger than expected, I think that would bother me. I like to pretend she only has a handful, so she has more time to think about me-me-me.
Thanks for this!

I dunno what my t's caseload is. She told me not long ago that she's not taking any new clients right now because she's trying to figure out how to move again (she isn't handling the climate where she moved to 2 years or so ago and wants to move back to the lower desert. Not back in the same town as me unfortunately, but closer at least!) of course she hasn't mentioned it in a few appointments so I don't even know if that's still the plan anymore or not. I don't think that she has a huge caseload, simply based on the fact that anytime I've asked for an appointment outside my normal time it's never been a problem to schedule. I did find out awhile back that I'm likely her longest current client, since I'm the only one she has left here in my little desert! I kinda like that thought.

I'm with Xenon - torn between being curious and not wanting to think about it. She's so funny. I was thinking today how she always remembers like everything I say, but she forgets all the time what SHE says. haha

Here in Ireland it is recommended to only see three to four clients a day so that's about 20 a week. My t works privately from home and in a community development place and has started shadowing to become a trainer this year. She is quite busy but I know if i ever needed her she would be there and has been in the past..even given up her day off to see me in a crisis and only charged me half her fee.
I wouldn't see a t who had more than 20 clients as I wouldn't feel they could support me or any of their other clients with that caseload. I am not judging here its my only personal opinion.. I guess I wouldn't want to share her too much
Thanks for this!

That's part of the problem I'm curious but at the same time I don't want to know because I don't want to share. My T always remembers everything I say but sometimes forgets what she has said - perhaps I should take notes for her haha.

I would think too many clients would be a problem...I've had bad experiences with counsellors who couldn't seem to remember much about me or keep my story straight, or who seemed to operate strictly by a 'this is your diagnosis, so now you do this and this' approach and not give a crap about getting to know me better than that, and I suspect a heavy caseload may have had something to do with that. I have no idea what that maximum number would be, though.

This is the first therapist I've seen who's reminded me of things I've said that I didn't immediately recall, which is quite a new experience for me. Too often, it's been me correcting and re-explaining things all the damn time. It's definitely refreshing.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who's wondered.....I seriously have, just haven't asked. My T works M-Th, and I have two sessions a week at 2, I *think* I may be her last session of the day, but not always sure. I have really been curious. I'm sure it's hard to tell, with some coming, some going, some come in as needed, some once a month or every two weeks, weekly, or twice a week like me. I've been wanting to ask her....just out of curiosity. I haven't because...well, I guess why does it matter? I know she leads a busy life.... but I know it's not ALL in the office.
Thanks for this!

I love that T does that for me too. It helps me feel safe that she genuinely cares about me. She showed me her notes and I'm not sure how she remembers anything from them. I feel like she really is getting to know me. I think she has a rather large caseload but I think she handles it with a lot of finesse and professionalism.

Thought that too! Can't imagine how a person can just switch like that....

She only sees one client and that is me. LOL. Seriously, I am her only client. She does assessments the rest of the time.

My t works 40 hours/week and sees clients for most of that time. I'd bet he sees clients for 35 hours a week, but he has an excellent memory and I've never felt forgotten or unacknowledged.
Thanks for this!

I don't think either of my long term Ts saw very many clients, probably 20 or less a week. I could be wrong though.
