I could not have more than two dogs and sometimes that is too many. I find dogs a lot needier than cats and my breed is not even an especially needy/clingy breed as dogs go.

My cats (when we had several - we are now down to just one) were personable and would meet me at the door and such, but not needy in the same way as I find dogs.

I do dogs. Well, I don't DO dogs, I let lots of them live with me. Lots of them...I've had up to 6 at one time. Just one right now though.

LOL This made me laugh. I think I woke baby.

Mine ignores us most of the time. He seems too interested in baby's fluffy hair. I'm always shooing him away from her.

I have a kennel license because I foster dalmatians primarily. People think they're cute and get them for their kids, then find out they are strong willed and hyper so they dump them at about 18mos (average). I take them, train them and get them into a good home. They are amazing dogs, if you have the time to exercise them enough. Sweet, snuggling clowns. My Sadie is laying across my lap right now. Nice and warm.
Yeah, there was that huge mess post "101 Dalmations." One of my cat's vets (yeah, they need a freakin' team) trains and shows dalmations...I guess her focus with them is mostly on agility. I think she owns two right now.

My dog = My child. He probably costs more than a child.

JS - I hope that apartment finally happens for you!

Took my elderly mother for blood work then breakfast.
The conversation went kind of like this:

Mom: Are you still planning on taking that test for the animal thing
Me: Yes mom, I am going to become a licensed wildlife rehabber.
Mom: If you ask me, I'd say those animals are what makes you so sick.
Me: I didn't ask you
Mom: Do they get paid a lot?
Me: No, animals don't have wallets, so I don't get paid at all
Mom: You've really blown your calling.
Me: Isn't it time for you to croak yet? (okay, didn't say it, just thought it)

That was in between the: "your sister...blah blah blah" and "your brother...blah blah blah"

Please note, sister(s) and brother(s) don't have time to take her for blood work, but I do since I have NO LIFE and have "blown my calling".

I was the designated care giver, too. In my case, my brothers don't think I'm smart enough to make my own decisions, etc...yet, they left me the most important responsibility of caring for our aged, extremely ill parents...

I could rant on this subject..but won't.

Out of my siblings I am the only one who did not pursue post secondary education. Yet, I have the most to show for myself. Weird how that works.
