Tonight's unsolicited educational snippet: in Swedish, the phrase is "Snuff is snuff, even if it is kept in a gilded snuffbox" (and it goes on: "And roses in a cracked vase are still roses". It rhymes in Swedish.)
This is a nice phrase, I like it. There's probably some way to make a similar rhyme in English, but I'm too tired to think of it.

Wiki, you rock in so many ways.

Ugh. Vaguely depressed today. Speaking of what we've chosen to do in our careers and our lives, the job I have now has made me actually begin to stop caring about what I do. My advisor all through grad school was a not-so-great guy, and even he could not quash my feeling that I was doing what I loved, and that it was the right thing to do. Oddly, a boss I like much better as a person has managed to do that. Loving science was such a big part of who I was before. It's sad to feel that slipping away.

We evolve. I can't think of a better way to say it. Perhaps explore other options?

not enjoying your job is a torture of the soul, it drains you daily... You sometimes have to take a few days off to regain a new perspective or at least replenish your "Give a F&#^"

Me: Yes mom, I am going to become a licensed wildlife rehabber.
Mom: If you ask me, I'd say those animals are what makes you so sick.
Me: I didn't ask you
Mom: Do they get paid a lot?
Me: No, animals don't have wallets, so I don't get paid at all
Mom: You've really blown your calling.
Me: Isn't it time for you to croak yet? (okay, didn't say it, just thought it)

Okay, Wiki. That whole conversation is hilarious. Disturbing, but hilarious.

My first was a cueball. This one had a full head of hair. Now she just has the patch on top left. It's about 2-3 inches long.

Hey...anyone here a Ransom Riggs fan? (Mastodon...surely you've read him?)
He just isn't writing quickly enough for me, so I downloaded his "Talking Pictures" book. He collects antique photos, and this book is of photos with weird stuff written.

Like> photo of rock wall where I found newborn baby girl on Jan 26, 1951
Or> Lucille (died from leukemia)

Now, well known fact is I am petrified of death and anything that relates to it, especially photos of dead people. I force myself to put a pic of my dad up, but it creeps me to no end and I can't walk in the room it's in when it's dark. I am a freak. I will drive several blocks out of the way to avoid a graveyard. Funerals aren't bad, but wakes...OMG. Must be medicated with lots and lots of herbs.

So...wtf was I thinking. I am officially creeped beyond measure, home alone, and STILL READING.

and thou that yonder standest, living soul, withdraw from these people who are dead!
but he saw that I did not withdraw.

I think that's Dante.

Will I ever stop getting so nervous before sessions?! This sucks. Gah. It's freezing in my office, or perhaps I just feel cold. I'm reading over this weeks journal entries to make my notes.

LOL This made me laugh. I'm glad someone appreciates the cat couch.

Sorry you're feeling that way.

I threw up every week for the first two and a half years. Now I just feel sick without actually being it.

That's actually quite comforting, thank you. I feel like I'm the only one - it's nice to know I'm not.

I am not sure how I would function if that happened to me. I have a phobia about throwing up.

I always get nervous. Sometimes that lets up when I sit down in the office and other times it doesn't.

This week I am extra nervous.

It's been snowing for almost 8 hours...I think maybe it's done now. Maybe.

I moved from the South (my always will forever be my home) where we never saw snow - to a state that's supposed to have snow every winter and we've seen hardly any this year. I feel shorted.

Over twenty years ago I changed coasts, from lots of snow to no snow, and now I feel a combination of lucky, guilty and left out. I like (normal) snow.

My sister in the upper Midwest will only let me talk about the weather for a few months a year. Sometimes I comply. Now I am for sure.

Oo yes, Miss Peregrine's Home - I love it. I haven't read the sequel, though.

I'm still on a Steven Brust binge.
