When I've disassociated, I find that if I can just distract myself, I come back to myself - like playing a mindless game like Candy Crush. Sometimes a sudden change in temp can help too. It's like riding out a wave in that regard.

Don't know if that would help for you, I know it can vary from person to person.

Morning couchies. *Passes out hugs to all who need and/or want them*.

After sleeping on my session last night I awoke with a ton of stuff I need to process which I'm sure will take up most of my weekend.

I was going to kill someone this morning for a diet soda - and I really like this one fast food chains Diet Pepsi - brilliantly bubbly and just perfect to my liking - so I went through the drive thru and ordered a large one and the guy at the window didn't make me pay! So today started off on a decent foot now if it will keep rolling this way all the way til Wednesday I'll be happy.

Early happy birthday Mast. Lucky for you this isn't on audio so you won't hear me singing to you.

StressedMess, I'm impressed that you can do that stuff from videos.

Nowhere USA, I never had kids but if I did I always thought I would want to homeschooled them. I don't like anything "mass" including a young child's education.

KayDubs, thanks. I'll take a small coffee. I was just reading how much water almonds and dairy require. Could you put hemp milk in mine please?

Cheerful thoughts to everyone not in a good space right now. Including me.

For me, therapy this afternoon. This morning I'm going to make a big part of soup with a lot of the ingredients of the "mystery bag" of veggies I picked up yesterday. Kind of like a community a supported agriculture thing but instead of committing to a season you order the weeks you want it. There will be a lot of soup and salad on the menu this week.

Sorry you are having this problem right now. I'm in that same place and I hate it. Thus the reason I'm seeing my therapist again today. Need to get to the bottom of it.

Hemp milk it is. I know someone who makes their own almond milk; I wonder if it's less resource-intensive if it's homemade. It doesn't sound that difficult from how this person explains the process.

I have a laundry list of reasons, but among them is that I don't like the way the public school does stuff. I live in a rural area for one, and for another, I'm a huge math lover. Huge. And in talking with friends and such, I discovered that my parents just never had the expectation that my sister or I would be bad at math. My sister is SUPER creative. As a child she would have fit the bill for someone that "doesn't have a math brain" - now she has a math degree and teaches high school mathematics because no one ever told her she wasn't supposed to be good at math. I went through Calc. 2 and would love to go back and take more.

I just... I tutored a girl in Alg. 2 a few years ago. She was making Ds. She kept saying she "wasn't smart" in math and I made her stop saying it. I also made her stop doing her math homework in marker and I bought her pencils and I made her write out the steps one by one. By the end of the year, she was pulling in As and Bs.

In another life, if she'd had a better home life and teachers who didn't ignore her, she could have been a girl that went into a STEM field. But she never did fully overcome her aversion to math even after she got good at it.

It was enough to solidify my position that I was not sending my children into my local school system.

Happy birthday, Mast!

Tomorrow is our 28th wedding anniversary. Tonight we are going to a German restaurant and I plan to make a complete pig of myself.

I've made almond milk. It is easy and good. Unfortunately the water is used in the growing. I live in CA and we have drought conditions here. Most almonds are grown in CA and I just read they use 10% of the state's water. I'm starting to think there is nothing to eat or drink that doesn't harm something in some way. Excep for edible invasive plants. I'd better stay off here today, especially until after my therapy appointment. I'll bring everyone down, or down further.

Congrats on 28 years! It'll be a decade for me this upcoming May Sometimes I go "TEN YEARS IS FOREVER" (which since I moved ever 2-3 years my whole life, it is kind of a big deal for me) and then I go "Wow, that's barely a blip."

Are you vegan or vegetarian?

I did read an interesting article about a guy that decided to eat local meat that he hunted - so he was vegetarian but then decided to be a locavore I think is the term?

Parents just have to know their school system. There are lousy ones and excellent ones and everything in between. We've been fortunate enough to live in an excellent public school system, and one of the best parts of it is that is has one of the finest fine arts programs in the nation, something really near and dear to my heart. The academics are excellent too, but their experience in their music education has been most invaluable as far as I'm concerned.

Thanks. My parents celebrated 62 years this past October, so we haven't even hit their halfway mark yet.

Hello all..
Happy Early Birthday, Mast. Sorry you are dissociating, I hate when that happens. I hope you can ground yourself before it gets too bad.
Happy Anniversary, Chris. Congrats.

It's noon here, I've not eaten breakfast yet. Although, I've only been up for 2 hrs, and one was spent walking the dog. I've had my coffee. Thinking a protein shake is in order. That's a shame about the almonds. I know SD makes her own nut milks. I did once, but it's relatively cheap at whole foods, so I buy it mostly.

My H and I are coming up on 23 years. We work together though, so we joke those years should count as dog years.

Happy birthday, Mast! Happy anniversary, Lolagrace.

This is a can of worms so to speak. ;-/

In a word, I don't know what to eat. Not that it ever stops me. I've been both. Right now I'm mostly vegetarian but think I should be like that guy. Ideally I'd like to eat and live in a way that preserves as much wild habitat an as many wild species as possible, which to me means minimizing or eliminating at least the worst monoculture agricultural products, which would mean including concentrated sources of protein such as chicken from local small humane-type farms, easy enough for me to find at selected farmers markets. But I've been a vegetarian for too long for me to eat meat without visualizing in too much detail what the meat is. I do eat pasture-raised eggs and local organic yoghurt. I started eating the yoghurt because I got arthritis in one knee that was limiting my mobility and the yoghurt turned that around.

So, long answer to a short question, I think I shouldn't eat wheat and soy but I eat too much of them. Eat lots of yoghurt so am agonizing whether to buy a yoghurt maker or try calcium supplements again. Think I should switch to selected local chicken and and some sustainable fish and sometimes can do the fish a little and sometimes not and obsess over that. Usually drink bird-friendly coffee but sometimes not and beat myself up over that. Etc. Etc. I agonize but still eat too much.

Yes, I need therapy. :-o

It's all good. Having an awareness of what you're buying/eating is always worthwhile, imo. I try to support local farms/businesses/etc. where possible. I buy local wherever my budget allows for it. And invasive bamboo is a huge problem around here. Too bad there's a shortage of pandas around here!

The nice thing about my state is that the public school has to allow my children to participate in their extracurricular programs and there's a lot of extras I can join in on. Homeschooling is something we wanted to do so there's that piece, and at the same time, I don't think it's for everyone. Unlike some of my homeschooling peers I don't mind that my taxes pay for public education and I definitely support measures that improve it.

I think I should probably worry more about what I eat. My brain is too far gone though.

I wish I could afford to do more local. But on our shoestring budget with growing boys and with my level of depression making it hard, I go with what works on price point.

Makes sense. I have just me and not a huge or demanding social life so even though I have a limited budget I have some leeway. And go to the cheaper store when i need to, a lot, then beat myself up for not planning better. Naturally.

I think the nice thing is that I live in a farming community so at least in the fall, we get lots of local produce from people here. We have friends who love to garden and love to pass on their abundance

The invasive species diet - i love it!! Bamboo and asian carp from the great lakes. I wonder if the carp have omega-3's? Then chew on some chicory root... and there are always dandelions for wine... we can do this.

Eta - i swear, some eco-nut will be marketing this on public tv soon!!
