I am making the actual noodles myself - not the packaged ones you buy. I would not call it quite the experience-but they are tasty. From my experiment tonight - the broth seems a bigger deal than the noodles in terms of cooking difficulty. The noodles were not difficult - making the broth taste like I had the image of was a bit trickier.

The mister loves authentic ramen. His favorite is tonkatsu.

It sounds like very hard work to make noodles - do you have some kind of special knife?

Post therapy blah. I wonder if my T feels really sorry for my H. It would not surprise me - I would, if I were him.

CantExplain - I'm sorry I never replied to your post to me a couple of days ago. I'm in a pretty bad place and not really able to discuss coherently. (Not because I am upset with you - I'm not - but because I am upset about other things and pretty swamped with work.) I just wanted to thank you for responding, though.

Morning couch! Thanks for the kindness yesterday. Today is much better so far. H is thinking I caught a touch of the flu that is going around in addition to the withdrawal and I am thinking he is right. Fingers crossed that everyone here has a great day.

I am thinking about making bagels once the weekend gets here again. Haven't made them in a long time, but I think I'm about due! I can almost smell them already. Yep, I'm one of those that burns my tongue on the first one off the cookie sheet straight out of the oven because I can't wait to taste! Well I overslept this morning so I need to get off here and head out to work. Have a good day (or night) couch!

Homemade bagels are good - but they are a lot of work. I have made this one
peter reinhart?s bagels | smitten kitchen

and my regular recipe where you made the dough, then broiled them, then boiled them and then finally bake them.

I sometimes use a knife to cut flat noodles but I also have a pasta roller/press thing that you squidge the dough through to make the shapes.

Saw this in an article, there wasn't an author but I thought it was beautiful and wanted to share. Talks about death so I "hid" it just to be sure.

Possible trigger:

I need to learn ALL the skills! I want fresh ramen, I want homemade bagels, yum yum! The best I can do is keep us all fat, while not poisoning us or serving food that is still raw!

Figured out why Chairman Mao was screaming at me so early this morning. Apparently some idiot (me!!) let the food bowl get dangerously low overnight, and it didn't meet with His Highness' approval. So, in his best "get up and correct this oversight now" voice, he made his displeasure known. Once kibble was down, chomping commenced, and a grateful leg headbutt and purr let me know that I was back in his good graces again.

I swear that cat is more of a diva than either one of my daughters!

I really enjoyed driving to work this morning minus the sound of the tree dragging under the truck, although there are still a few details that need work, it is much better than it was. Not necessarily as great as the price I paid, but pretty good. Safety first and all that jazz.

Have a great day couch!!

Ellahmae - it is from a sermon given in St Pauls Cathedral by Henry Scott Holland in 1910, after the death of Edward VII. It is beautiful. I also think it's interesting, because to me it underlines the fundamental fact that we are completely alone in life.
Thanks for this!

Right - I didn't remember the fact that noodles don't have to be spider thread thin strips. Also, I wasn't familiar with pasta rollers - I am now. Thank you!

Siamese cats take diva to a whole new level. We once had a huge orange male tabby and a tiny little seal point siamese female - she was a total terror to the whole household and he was a giant furry cuddly slug. I have stayed away from siamese since that one - they are smart but way too vocal for me.

How did I know that you would know where it came from? Thanks! I do think it is beautiful. I see it differently though. How we are never really ever alone even at times when we think we are. Except right now I can't see that so who knows. I appreciate the statement to look at it differently. I like to challenge my own thoughts.

I never thought anything or anyone could outdo my drama queen children, but I swear he has! We have some tabby babies and they are so sweet but he sits above them looking down and occasionally deigns to pay attention to them. He's a blue point, his blue eyes glow red in the ambient lighting and scare the crap out of you in the middle of the night! DD1 picked him out when the ex was buying puppies for him and DD2. All I got out of the deal is a guaranteed 5 am wake up call!

Must do some work now, to justify my goofing off on the internet time. See you all later!

Now I have that song from Lady & the Tramp stuck in my head.... thanks... ha!

We are Siamese if you please
We are Siamese if you don't please
Now we are looking over our new domicile
If we like we stay for maybe quite a while
Do you see that thing swimming round and round?
Yes, maybe we could reaching in and make it drown
If we sneak in not to fool it carefully
There will be a head for you a tail for me
Do you hear what I hear?
A baby cry
Where we finding baby there are milk nearby
If we look in baby buggy there could be
Plenty milk for you and also some for me

I've had the recipe for years don't even remember where it came from its called "water bagels" and is a hand written one. You make the dough, form the bagels, boil them in a big pot of water and then bake them. Not hard at all, just time consuming. I'll share the recipe if you'd like it!
