went to pdoc(emergency) sat for 1 hour and told them basic story.
they were supposed to asses me and change my meds. they sent me on my way saying 2 year waiting list - no assessment.
came home in state of pure utter anxiety - called crisis team. they told me to get an appointment at derby universitypsych team. they said 4 months waiting at least. took 2 diazapam. got a call from uni saying they had cancellation this afternoon, went, was assessed, promised to have 3 hour appointment with psychiatrist and have meds changed. initial dx is bi polar, ptsd, borderline and depression.
had all my pills comfiscated apart from ones i need. cant get psychotherapy until stopped having suicidal thoughts, so med change first then psychotherapy.
so lucky someone cancelled. just thought i'd let you know, have to wait for phone call now tomorrow from pdoc at uni, and then have a med change b4 therapy.

Glad to hear you got to see someone. I'm definitely convinced that the UK sucks from a mental health standpoint. How awful that you have to wait so long. I really hope the new medicines will help and that you get to see someone for therapy.....

I have been studying (in my current school course) the UK's problems with their health care crisis now, worse than the US even (which is bad enough) which at least "works" but has it's bad moments/expensive costs. That's so hard! Glad you are at least on a meds route, hope that boots the suicidal thoughts and stabilizes you a bit so you can go for the rest.

good for you, jinny... i'm glad you are taken care of. the uk sounds quite unbelievable as far as healthcare.... you can't see a therapist until you are no longer have suicidal thoughts??? that is the time when you most need to talk with someone! ugh. well, i just wanted to let you know that you are in my thoughts.

Jinny,
When you are feeling suicidal is when you most need to see a therapist. I'm sickened by their attitude (but not surprised went to pdoc.....hah........)

First I am glad that you have had some success today even by virtue of a cancellation.... Finally.

I can not even believe that you can not get therapy until you are not suicidal. What is a person to do? The wait for services there is way amazing to me.

I hope that we might offer you some comfort to you and am glad you are here. I am sorry that health care is so difficult there. I have heard similar stories about Canada... or justifying care.

I have thought that socialized medicine is a fine thing but after hearing this from you and friends in Canada..I have to think twice.

Do you now have months to wait to see Pdoc or has today's happening helped to speed this up ... I hope.

Take care..

Well, you are on the right road now. Hopefully the psych team will keep an eye on you.

There is a long waiting list to see an NHS psychologist, and you have to be stable enough to be able to do the therapy, so for the time being lets hope they get the med dosage right.

Take care.

thankyou so much for your support once again. i have 2 influential docs on my side now pushing for a med change. they are both calling me tomorrow, plus one of the crisis team. i should get different meds next week, so i can manage til then i also have a 24 hour crisis line to rely on,the problem is my impulsiveness which makes them think i have bi-polar. so things should now happen quickly.

love you all loads, hugs to each and every one of you along with love and care

jinny,
It's good you got to go when someone cancelled. I hope you are feeling better real soon.

On a side note-- I had a question. Is it that the NHS is totally free-- no charge for visits and so that is the reason for such waiting lists? I've read that there are psychologists and counselors readily available(only have to wait a few weeks as opposed to several months) when one pays a fee... is that correct? It's the FREE service that is so difficult to navigate... is that the problem with mental help there in the UK?.... I was just wondering.....if you don't mind me asking......(I've just always had to pay when I've been in therapy-- here in the US)

Take care and I wish you much healing. went to pdoc.....hah

Jinny take care of yourself! That is terrible about those waiting lists. I'm glad you got to see someone though.

yeah mandy, nhs is free well, we pay so much out of our wages for it every month year in year out. privately it would cost £150 a session, i dont have tht sort of money for saying long term therapy could be going on for at least a year or even more.
looks like i'm getting somewhere at last, but only cos i'm making a nuisance of myself and pushing all the time.

thanks for caring everyone, jinnyann xoxoxoxo

I totally agree. Whatever could the rationale for that? (((jinnyanne))) I'm so glad you got the appointment due to the cancellation.

jinnyann, good for you to hang in there and keep pushing to get what you need.
