I've read Mists of Avalon a few times- demanding but rewarding, and yes, super-long, so hard to do if you have to tackle it a few minutes at a time. ![]() I read the sequel too, Forest House I think it was called, not as good, but Mists of Avalon, wow..... a real anchor of feminist literature in my life. |

I really love "Children of Men" by P.D. James
as much as I like the book, it is a rare case where I actually liked the movie better. Tighter, faster, sharper, more poignant. Of course both Clive Owen as theo and Michael Caine as Jasper, make this one of my favorites. |

I read a lot of YA stuff. And I reread a lot, too. And I am a big fan of Patrick O'Brien - I thought the film was pretty good, better than I'd expected, but the casting was a bit off and they had removed much of the dialogue, which is one of the best things about the books. One book I really recommend to those who like fantasy and who don't mind lighter feel-good stuff is The Goblin Emperor by Katherine Addison. |

Yeah, I didn't like the movies for this reason. Most of the grown-up characters were cast way too old (the Marauders and Snape would have been in their early 30s, not 50++), and many of them didn't match their descriptions from the book. I preferred the darker books too - I read the 4th one first. I doubt I would have gotten as hooked if I had started at the beginning.

I think this is what make the HP fanfiction so enticing. The story is gripping enough, but there's so much that's 'off' and contrived about the plot that it becomes more interesting to see the other directions it could go in.

Update on my mom: They are now calling what she experienced a TIA - transient ischemic attack - which is essentially a mini-stroke with no permanent brain damage. She should be moved to a regular room soon. Physical therapy got her up and into a chair, so progress.

Chris-good news. I also like reading Angela Thirkell. Very funny.

And to everyone caring for others. And that thing where people put their finger on their head and sort of point it, to Stopdog. My T is a ravenclaw fo sho. I found a quiz which sorted you into hogwarts houses according to your starsign. I think it was v accurate (I was gryffindor) but my H thought it was rubbish (he was hufflepuff!) |

It is all very hard on his ego and dignity; I get that. Been there; done that. But as long as I am the one who may be left to try to lift my husband, he doesn't get a whole lot of say in the matter, not to mention the danger of creating other health problems if he further injures himself. |

T wants me to get a pdoc. I don't want a pdoc. I am not on meds and don't need to be on meds but I need a pdoc anyway. I understand Ts reasoning (can't put it out in public) but gah. I feel like a screamy toddler, "I DON'T WANT TO. NO. NO. NO."

Mom's home!! Woohoo!! Look how gorgeous she is! She's signing her discharge papers in the pic. Testament to the importance of taking quick action when you suspect stroke symptoms.

She's awesome. She apparently was the life of the MICU unit. People love my mom. She's got this huge personality and sense of humor that people are drawn to. Mom and Dad are just good people and it just kind of rubs off on everyone who is around them. We are very, very fortunate things turned out so well.

When I'm happy and relaxed I make mistakes. Maybe a certain amount of depression and paranoia is necessary to do my job?

Sustaining perfection is impossible. Better it seems to me now to be relaxed with high but reasonable expectations. It's like you said to me about organization being fear based.... consider you create more room for gains if you're content than if you are ****-retentive out of anxiety.... you may make a mistake, but you may also make a mistake that works...
my gifted daughter learned about those in class, I call them serendipitious, and depressed paranoid people aren't usually open to that. |

Of course you can. Many people have adopted my parents as their own over the years.
