Seems like it's poll week around here. Well, here's another one.

What put me in mind of this is that usually I am pretty well put-together for therapy appointments in what I would describe as business casual, since I'm typically coming from work. Plus some jewelry and accessories.

Today I had off and I went swimming just before therapy - so I showed up with wet hair, hole-y sneakers, torn boyfriend jeans, my faded Red Sox t-shirt and dirty Yankees cap (no, divided loyalties are not why I'm in therapy). No. 1 took all this in and raised her eyebrows at me. I explained that the cat hadn't dragged in anything stylish this morning.

It did make me realize that I do not normally see people in the waiting room dressed like that.
Thanks for this!

Jeans or khaki pants, button down collar shirt and sneakers. In the winter -I add a sweater.

Jeans and a reasonably decent t-shirt and a jumper in winter.

I once was hallucinating and I went to my psychiatrist after work. I was dressed in business casual because I was working at a bank. The psychiatrist told me that I wasn't schizophrenic because I was nicely dressed.

Whatever I am wearing when I leave work, generally, but that can range from a dress to blue jeans depending on the day. I don't give what I wear to therapy much thought beyond what I normally wear.

Depends. In the summertime anything goes because I hate the heat and humidity where I live, so I just don't give a rat's *****. Yesterday I wore jeans and an old shirt, no make-up. Fall and winter I usually dress up in tunics, leggings and kickin' boots. I can't wait for September.

Whatever is that I am wearing that day. If I am on my way from work then I am dressed like for work. Sometimes I am on my way to gym. I don't think much about it.

i put "comfort clothes," but i am not sure i would ever wear pajama bottoms out in public, and i am LAZY/do not care about clothing. Since its the summer, i generally rotate between 3 pairs of shorts (mesh/cotton casual) and a t-shirt.

If my dress changes drastically one way or another I explain myself because I know they notice these things. I think your therapist will get accustomed to your various styles. who cares what you see in the waiting room? Maybe they were all modeling after you.

Whatever I feel like for the most part. I don't wear shorts or dresses/skirts shorter than ankle length because I wouldn't be able to put my legs up on the chair. There are a couple of dresses that I wore once that I will never wear again because I feel like T reacted to them somehow. Likely my imagination, but even if it is, I don't want to be going there...

Always work attire. When I first started going to therapy with my current T, I went straight from work, so I always looked super professional, almost like I was going to a work interview. My time has slid back a bit, and although I have time to head home after work, I still wear my work clothes to my appt. Not that my T would judge me, but I feel like in general there is less judgment on work attire since it's not as much as your personality as what you wear in your free time (although for me, it's the same). So I feel more comfortable. On the flip side, I think it prevents me from feeling like I'm in a relaxed environment where anything goes (I work for a large reputable conservative company- so I'm always buttoned up, in black dress pants, black heels, etc). I just can't make the switch. Which is interesting bc I have a hard time opening up, so maybe I should... Just can't though. Too self-conscious.

I've gone in everything from sweatpants to business suit to yoga attire to jeans and a t shirt. It depends on what I am doing immediately before or after session. Usually it is business casual, as I generally go right after work.

I work from home, so I get dressed specifically for therapy. With T, she's very stylish, and I've told her I care about my appearance, so I try to seem put together. Lately, I've decided I need to wear dresses more, so I've worn them to my last couple appointments--fairly casual ones, and styled casually. And each time, she's said, "You're dressed up!" So I think my goal needs to be to wear dresses enough that she no longer says that...

With marriage counselor, I try to walk the fine line between looking pretty good but not looking overtly sexy, because of the whole transference thing, which H knows about. There have been a couple times when I haven't realized until I was there that I was showing, say, a bit more cleavage than I'd intended. Which is especially a thing if I'm weepy and reaching for a tissue, which is on the table between where I sit on the loveseat (H on other side) and MC sits on the couch. I don't want to seem like, I'm all weepy, and hey, look at my boobs! (Or at least for H to realize that!) I also tend to wear some sort of jewelry I can play with, like a necklace or ring, to play with if I'm anxious, so I don't end up playing with my hair instead (or my wedding ring). Though I often end up playing with my hair anyway...interestingly, I don't tend to do that with T. It's more just playing with my hands or whatever jewelry I have on. So it's probably a subconscious flirty thing...

With p-doc, I'm kinda like whatever, but still want to look a little pulled together. Unless I'm a mess and want her to realize that, so she'll change my meds. Then I'll look a bit less pulled together. Like one time, when I was feeling really bad, I was going to just grab the closest shirt, but realized it was a palm tree print, which seemed a bit too...happy/carefree for my mood. Think I went with a black or navy shirt instead.

I play with hair/wedding ring/jewelry/water bottle/couch pillow constantly, out of anxiety.

I wear different things depending on mood. spent most of the summer in tees, tanks and yoga leggings. but in the winter I wore all my heeled boots, skirts and more stylish outfits. T always compliments my shoes and says I am stylish. I used to dress more for him but now I usually just toss something on without much thought.

I always have to look as attractive as possible. So that means usually a dress that makes me look hot as hell and shows off my figure. However, it can't look TOO dressy or that I'm trying too hard, so it's always subtly hot. I don't know. I put lots of thought and effort into my appearance, and I know he appreciates it, because he's told me so. I do it for him and for me. I also forgot to add that I don't usually repeat the same outfit twice. It's always something different. I shop too much. But that's a whole other discussion.

I voted comfort clothes. I don't really stand in my closet and choose what I'm going to wear to therapy on any given day, but I do have my "therapy clothes" laid out before I go. I don't wear my work clothes usually, because I get wet/maybe dirty at work, but I have the clothes I'm going to wear out because I get home from work, let the dog out, change clothes then have to run to therapy. This summer it's been shorts and a tshirt or tank top. Either jean shorts or athletic type shorts. If I wear pants, it's usually jeans or yoga pants, I think I've gone in sweatpants a few times. The one thing that stays consistent, usually even if there's snow on the ground, I almost always wear slide on sandal type shoes. Just because my shoes always come off and I have my feet on the couch. So I wear shoes that are easy to take off/put on. My T actually asked me once if I wear anything else, and I told her I wear them to therapy for that reason.

it depends on how screwed up my life is and what issues we are working on... lately, i have been wearing whatever i can find that is clean.

i dont like comments on my appearance so i try to stay the same.

psychiatrists comments on appearance always seem hilarious to me. you can be wearing the same thing and one day they will call it

a nice summer top

and the next day

baggy and unkempt.

god, those records are traumatizing in their own right. not those so much... but i have heard far more critical descriptions of appearances in peoples mental health charts.
