I just watched Girl, Interrupted. Loved it! Have seen many other movies related to therapy and wondered if we could get a list going?

It has come up a few times in the past so a search might give more answers quickly.

Have seen What about Bob? recommanded more than once on here, I should really check it out.
There's also Side Effects by Soderbergh (although it's more about medication than therapy itself). I didn't like Girl, Interrupted and thought it was going nowhere, even though I love Winona Ryder. I adore Spellbound even if some of the "psychology" is a bit silly and dated. |

I enjoy that one with Robin Williams and Ben Affleck and...whoever that other guy is.
When my husband became a therapist, I bought him What About Bob. Thats one of our favorites. |

What About Bob hits on a lot of traditional ideas/concepts about therapy. It is absolutely hilarious, especially if you get a lot of the psychodynamic/psychoanalysis jokes. I'm not a big Billy Murray fan, but I did enjoy the movie a lot.
Another good one is It's Kind of a Funny Story (2010) which is newer and has Zach Galifianakis in it. It's about a teen who is feeling suicidal and goes to the ER. He gets admitted to the hospital psych ward for a week and you meet different characters in the ward. |

Good Will Hunting is the Robin Williams one. I love it though there are 2 really intense scenes that iI either fast forwrd through or if watching with someone else I go make a cup of tea,

THanks...I've seen House of Cards, What about Bob, Sybil (both the original and the Lifetime remake), um...what's the name of the one with Robin Williams...he's a therapist....is it Good Will Hunting? Now just saw Girl, Interrupted, and I did like that one. I liked the two Sybil ones, but actually liked the lifetime one better. I have all of these movies, except for Girl, Interrupted. Oh....and the movie about the black man in the Navy with anger issues... Antoine Fischer? Is that it? Saw that one too.

Elephant song, it's based on a play and set on T/Client interaction.

Not to everyone's taste, but "The Treatment" with Chris Eigemann. It's more about psychoanalysis.

a few more:
Matchstick Men. Excellent movie where main character's therapy figures strongly into the plot. Sam Rockwell, Nick Cage.. Couples Retreat, fun comedy about couples therapy. K-PAX. Really good stuff. Kevin Spacey's character believes he is from another planet. Others at the mental hospital he's at start to believe it too.

Klute (spooky and creepy film with def adult content, but has therapy in it and the person who plays a therapist is actually in real life not an actor but a therapist)

Steve Carrell is a couples therapist who does an intensive week-long program. It didn't get amazing reviews (likely because it was slow paced and not extremely funny) but I thought it was sensitive, showed some very stark vulnerability and was really well-done. |

What About Bob is my all-time favorite therapy movie. I find it just hilarious - probably because I relate too much to Bob's attachment problems.

If you can handle it, "Sex, Lies and Videotape" has some great stuff in it as well. |

And for In Treatment, I was particularly caught up in some of the story lines. Seeing Paul in his own therapy sessions was always interesting, too. I'd recommend it. If you're not interested in a particular character, you can always skip their episodes, though most of the ones from the first season in particular are great.. |

That movie is the best! I have threatened my T before that if she ever tries to get rid of me as a client I will go Bob Wiley on her ***.

Short Term 12 is a good movie if I remember correctly. Not about therapy per se but similar. Tells about group home for teenagers.

Has anyone seen Side Effects with Jude Law (2013)? I like Jude Law, but never heard how that movie fared at the box office.

Many times. It isn't really a true biography as a lot was made up, but still I love it a lot. Did you know that the person this movie was about died tragically this year? He and his wife, both in their 80's, both died when the taxi cab they were riding in was involved in an accident.

Thanks for all the ideas! I actually have the DVD A beautiful Mind, but never watched it. Maybe I should. I've tried In Treatment via You Tube a few times, and for some reason could never get into it......
