Hi, couch.
Been a few busy days, home from CVS and caught up on the couch. Now it is almost midnight and I am still awake and not tired. Saw pdoc today. It was a good appointment overall. He asked how I was feeling, I said better. He then made a comment that I must be taking my medication then. I said I was. Then he makes a remark that I am stubborn and must like learning things the hard way. My comment back: "Yep, and I get it from my dad...he's stubborn as a mule too." Some other typical questions and answers. Then it was time for my shot. As he was opening the box and needle, I got the courage to ask him how many patients he had on injections. His response was he never counted, but he had a lot. Then he goes on to tell me that he has mostly men on them because women usually are more compliant. He then gets talking about there is a new Invega that is once every three months, but he is concerned about it and the side effects that could occur, so he was going to let his collegues test it out first and then tell him the results before he will put any of his patients on it. By this time, the needle was on the shot and he asked if I was ready. I said that we might as well get it over with. He then tells me: "Just think, you won't have to do it again for 4 weeks." My comment back to him: "Smart A S S" While sitting in the waiting room I got to smirk at other patients trying not to laugh. The other 2 were college aged kids. This lady comes out of his office asking a million and one questions, pdoc tells her he already answered that 10 times and was not going to answer it again. He calls the next patient back (not one of the college kids but an older lady). The lady that just came out is asking the receptionist if she thinks that you can have psychosis if you are able to think straight. The receptionist politely tells that lady that is a clinical question that needs to be discussed between a patient and a doctor. The lady asks the same question again. The receptionist gives the same answer. This goes on for 5 minutes. Then the lady asks it she can go ask pdoc herself. The receptionist tells her that he is in session with another patient and that cannot be interrupted. He lady then tell that receptionist that she'll just go knock on his door and ask him. The receptionist has to get up and block her from going down the hall. The lady begs and pleads for another 5 minutes to go knock on the door to ask him the question. The receptionist hand her pdoc's business card, points out the cell phone number and tells her she can call him after 5pm when he sees his last patient and ask him then. The lady swears she will just be quick and needs to go knock on the door. The receptionist politely explains that she cannot allow her to do that. The lady then asks when that appointment will end, so she can just wait for him to talk to him when he comes out. The receptionist tells her he has other patients scheduled and waiting and she just needs to call his cell after 5pm and talk to him. The lady complains that he probably won't answer. The receptionist tells her that he answers for all his patients at anytime outside of office hours. The lady finally leaves. Wow. The whole time me and the 2 college kids are smirking at each other. When she leaves, I make the comment "oh my". One of the college kids then says they thought she'd never leave. We are then laughing. I feel bad for the receptionist. Wow, some people. I understand you want your questions answered, but to demand to go knock on the door when you were just with pdoc for 25 minutes (her appointment an over) is a little extreme. Then to still demand to go and knock when you are asked to call later... It's not like she was being denied her question being answered, she was just being asked to wait for a bit. So, I got a good laugh. |

Ugh. I'm so sick. I have a long couple of days ahead and really need some sleep but even with meds I'm so congested that it just isn't happening.
Plus when I am sick my muscles get bad because my muscles have trouble converting food into energy to start with. The combination of extra strain on my metabolism from being sick and not eating much because I don't feel well is causing massive muscle cramps. For a while my abdominal muscles were cramped up so bad that I thought I might have to go to the er. Which would be a pain because when you have a rare disease and you show up in the er you have to spend a lot of time convincing them that you actually know what is wrong and what will fix it. Its settled down some now after forcing down some Gatorade. I'm not nauseous but keep getting that coppery taste in my mouth like I might be nauseous at any moment. My last T session before break is tomorrow am and I really don't want to be exhausted and snotting everywhere... |

Coca cola is what I drink when feeling puny.
My southern family put great faith in coca cola syrup.

I too put great faith in cola syrup - can you still buy it in the drug store in it's pure form where you are SD? I could when I was in the south but out here in the west it is seemingly impossible to find.

Alas-it is not as easy to get anymore. Now I go to great lengths to buy the coke made with real sugar and use that.

Can one ignore a whole thread? I accidentally read it again no need to lie down in a darkened room now.
With some cola syrup, what even is that? |

It's the syrup base for Coca-Cola. They sell it to soothe upset tummies. Best is 1 TBSP over a spoonful of crushed up ice.

What the heck, you guys? Quit doing that to yourselves! Wait, sorry. Shouldn't tell you what to do. Please interpret that as 'I care about you very much and hate to see you hurting.' I say that wrong all the time and I know I periodically upset people.
On a light note, I am planning to order a coffee mug that says, "Your Google search is NOT the equivalent of my law degree." |

I've started utilizing the ignore function a little more liberally than I used to. It makes it a bit easier - don't know if that would help.

That would be a truly useful feature. Some threads just aren't worth subjecting myself to. I think it would be a more useful feature than ignore certain posters actually.

You know, there are times I've distrusted a professional. But then my next step is to talk to another professional in the field. Google can help me formulate questions... anyway, I just wish people respected expertise a bit more.

I'm FFFFRRRRRRREEEEEEEEEEE!!! May the festivities begin!!
I managed to get all of my research papers graded before I left, so I came home with nothing to work on over Christmas break!! Hallelujah! Four more symphony concerts to perform: 1 tonight; 2 tomorrow; 1 on Sunday. My boys went last night and I managed to get them some decent tickets. Tonight my husband will go. The boys enjoyed themselves. My friend who had the heart transplant 5 days ago is going well. He had a little scare yesterday; he started having trouble speaking so they were concerned he had a stroke. Fortunately, they discovered it was metabolic, fixed the issue and he is completely back to normal today. |

Reading the information that comes up from an internet search is some research.
I am not all that enamored of expertise and certainly not the blind kind where one is discouraged from questions and deserving of a thorough answer. In lawyer land - someone can go pro se if they choose. In medical land - the lobby is much stronger and works much much harder at keeping tools out of the hands of the non-anointed. I choose to not engage with that establishment voluntarily and hope to be dead instead should anyone try and foist it upon me involuntarily - I am certainly not going to an md as a supplicant. I will read and use herbs and so forth for myself. But even there, the govt is more likely to try and interfere with some useful herbs and natural products.
