I was a hooker. What was your position? I loved my rugby days!!
I didn't mind squat thrusts but my favorite practice drill was this one where we sprinted, dive roll, jump to feet, sprint ,dive roll, jump to feet down the field. I'd probably get a headache now 15 odd years later but I loved it then.
I'm a vet and spend a lot of time squatting and I am getting to the point where I can keep.my feet flat a lot of the time

You can!? that is so cool.I almost want to train myself to do it just for fun. We never did that drill, eeks! But, we weren't very good anyway.

I was a scrumhalf. It was suggested I be a hooker, but I was all like "NO WAY" haha. I miss my rugby days too, even if now I'd probably get broken quite quickly. I did recently join roller derby, which has the same sort of family feel that rugby did.

Yes, I took 1 at 9am. Then I took another half at 9:45am when I realized just one didn't cover the pain.

I can have 1 or 2 more at 1pm, if I need them.

I guess I'm not staying ahead of the pain.

I tried playing rugby - mostly drawn to it from having read way too many british boys at school books. I was a terrible rugby player and was used mostly as distracting fodder for the other team to pound on while the good players took care of the ball. Scrums were terrifying places to be (but I did love the language) I remember being told once that my job was to stop some Amazon woman and when I latched on to her legs - it was as if a fly had landed on an elephant - and she merrily ran down the field with me attached and flopping along ineffectively until at last, she flicked me off.

You're right.

I'm afraid of using them up...then not having any if I'm still having pain.
I'm such an awful patient.

The pain should be getting better, though. (?)

I'll take two when they are due again, at least for today.

I have an ice collar, which helps. So does sherbet!

The point of taking pain meds after surgery is to keep you out of pain when the pain is most intense -- just following surgery. Not taking pain meds when you are in pain following surgery actually tends to slow your recovery. Take them regularly while you need them and you will find as you heal you will need them progressively less until you no longer need them at all. The way you are doing it will just slow down your recovery. Take them only as prescribed (don't double up or anything; that is just as much a problem), but take them as prescribed. If you get to the end of your prescription and still are in so much pain that you need more, that's when you call and talk to your surgeon about how to proceed.
Thanks for this!

Job search--rebooting...

Call her again Growly. Keep calling til you get an answer. That way you'll be at the top of her list of people to consider when there's another open position.

hahahaha!!! luckily as the scrumhalf, i didn't have to tackle many people, which is good because i am very small. scrums also terrified me, another good reason to be scrumhalf.

I am small but solid and I loved tackling people. I took down women twice my size no problem. It was all about momentum.
I can't say I loved the scrum, but I loved hooking. Except one time we played this team at a tournament that was obviously way above our level. They has a TRAINER. They had matching warm ups. They had like 60,team members so they put a whole new team in at the half. And their hooker was INSANE. When we went to scrum she swung her head right into my face, knocked my head up and the scrum engaged on my throat. EVERY scrum she kept bashing my head with hers . I couldn't figure how she didn't have chronic brain trauma. I learned to counter it after a few scrums. We lost anyway but only by one penalty kick.
Thanks for this!

My only beef about being a hooker was that half the tackling was over by the time I peeled out of the scrum

This was certainly an...interesting comment to read without reading the ones before it and knowing you were referring to rugby! I was like, huh, didn't know you used to be a hooker...tackling? scrum???? Never heard those terms used in regard to...hm, let me check back a page or two...

I am about half way through my miraculous recovery, just having residual stomach ache now. Haven't strayed far from my bed all weekend, dammit. I have DIY fever! The a/c is on in here, it's 81 degrees outside and not much cooler in my living room. Yeah, that settles it, I'm staying here. . .

Don't look at me...I've spent most of the day in bed, alternately weeping, sleeping, and reading Flannery O'Connor (to whom neither the weeping nor the sleeping should be attributed).

Skipped swimming I felt so crappy. I did manage to do 80 squats and 80 lunges, though. All they caused was pain.

I went hiking with my son this morning, he took me to a canyon about 25 minutes from our house, not sure of the name of it but it was SO beautiful and tranquil up there!! I will be going back for sure. Here's me posing pretty mid-hike:

I love "ceiling cat"!! My black cat likes to hide up in that same spot above the refrigerator. The kitten doesn't go up there unless the big cat is already up there, I think she does it just to torment him
