The director at the clinic that i am going to has decided to have all of the DID( dissociative Idenity disorder) patients go upstairs to the adult clinic. this means leaving the thearpist that they have been working with. the therapist does nto want them to leave. the thearpist says that the director of the clinic does not like the kind of thearpy she does and does not want the therapist to refer to the alters as there names but to refere to the main person and not ecnologe the others. she wants her to change her therapy. the thearpist will not. so the director wants to have every DID patient that htis therapist works with to go upstairs. I want to stay with my thearpist. i know the kind of therapy she is doing is right. i called NAMI and they are going to take it to the board about this. Does anyone else have any other suggestions? DOes anyone know the Code of ethics for MSW and their clients? My T told me the last time i saw her that she may leave the clinic and go into private but she doesnt have the money . she asked me to give her to the end of the summer . i havent heard anything from her it has only been a few days. can someone please help us.... we are all flipping out. we wont go to a new therapist no matter what. we dont know if the therapist is going to leave or stay at the clinic.
confused.

So your therapist can see you until the end of summer? That is not today. Not immediate crisis.

I know, people tell you that. It's not easy to know it.

If you will not be able to see your therapist now then ask her by phone if she can help you find someone else who will work with you the way you want.

I thought you meant that when she said 'give me til the end of summer' that you would work with her til then and then she'd be leaving and that you could see her wherever she goes from there.

Oh I'm so sorry the director carries that frame of reference regarding DID. clinic problems Many do, you know? clinic problems I don't understand it, really, what the big deal is to them and the therapists. I mean, with that mentality it makes me wonder if they also believe that by talking about suicide with a patient that it will make them do it. clinic problems

I wish clinics were run differently, in general. A new director huh? Someone hired her and is responsible for her to get paid.. contingent on the patients not leaving. Why not, if you're able, contact the person over the director? If everyone did that, they would see the upheaval the new director has caused. I could see all new patients coming in with DID having to comply with a new policy, but forcing patients into changing therapists midstream is just not cool. clinic problems She might just want the T gone for the way she believes about DID. clinic problems

Hang in there. Let the T work this out if she can. It isn't the end of the world though it surely must feel that way to you. I think the T was working on opening her own practice. That is difficult if she is not licensed and already has her supervisory time done. (In some states it's 3 years for a master's degreed person.) She can find someone else to supervise, which she would have to do unless she changes for the director, see? The director probably supervises her and won't give her approval for the time unless she changes her approach, or changes her patients. clinic problems Sigh. What some ppl do with newly found power, eh?

I'm sorry you're in turmoil. clinic problems

I'm so sorry, confused43. I don't really understand how clinics work as my T is in private practice and simply uses techniques that work. There is no one to order him around and tell him to change if they don't like his style. I guess I don't understand how the director would even know what goes on between your therapist and her clients. Isn't it confidential? How would the director know your T refers to your alters by name? Maybe your T can invoke the therapist-client confidentiality rule to get around this. My first counselor was an MSW and did not share the content of our sessions with anyone. What is NAMI?

I hope your T is able to escape this clinic and go off on her own so you can continue to see her.

What problems is your T now allowed to work on in therapy if not DID? For example, if she is allowed to work on depression, maybe you could just tell the clinic you have conquered DID but are now working on depression so wish to see your T about that problem. Who cares if it's not quite the truth. What matters is that you get to continue with a therapist and therapy that are working for you.

Hang in there.

> What is NAMI?

National Association for the Mentally Ill

Primarily an association for parents of the mentally ill, I think.
