I know we have discussed traveling to psych appointments but it seems it is usually we discuss the travel time rather than distance. I found out this week my pdoc is leaving where she currently works. She works within the same medical facility I work in. I had an appointment a few days after learning of her leaving. She said there are a few clients she hopes will follow her to the new location and I am one of them. Like I said I work for the facility she currently works at so it seems like a betrayal to follow her but I also know my mental health is more important. So how far do you travel for appointments? Her new location will be about 45 miles away.

Hi nottrustin,
I'm sorry your pdoc is leaving. I travel around 14miles (23km / 1 hour) with public transport. Take care, Last edited by Demunie; Apr 10, 2016 at 04:53 AM. Reason: misunderstood something - Sorry |

My pdoc was about 30 minutes away (public transport). My T is about 25 minutes away (by car - 25km).
I followed my T when she left for a new place. She first went to work at a place that was about an hour away by car (55km). That was only for about 4 months. If you want to stay with this pdoc, then you should do that. It's not betrayal. Your health is most important. And just because you work at a place doesn't mean you have to use their services. I understand that it can feel like betrayal, but it isn't. Good luck. |

I traveled about 30 miles to my pdoc, in-city driving, so the commute ran anywhere from 30-60 minutes depending on the traffic on any particular day. My husband's medical specialist at one point was a 60 mile drive one way. He did that commute about once every other month for 15 years.
