Hugs to everyone who is/has staying/stayed alive for other people. I understand that feeling, as sometimes I feel like the only reason I don't off myself is because I know how devastated my mom would be. Hopefully we can all start wanting to live for ourselves!

Noise?? Um, like sleigh bells and carols????
I guess I don't think of Christmas as a noisy holiday.

The noise that gets on my nerves most at Christmas is the bells the Salvation Army Santas ring to get you to put money in their kettles. Somehow that bell sound hits some deep auditory nerve the wrong way.

And yes, I am a horrible person.

I love all the noise there is at Christmas. From the music to the toys and the bells. It's so cheerful and Christmas spirity.

I would rather they be neutral than positive. The positivity (that word again) seems unrealistic. When I broke things off with my future ex-husband and No. 1 was all, "that's great!", I was all, "are you KIDDING me? I feel like I ripped my heart out and tore it in two and flayed myself alive for good measure - not to mention hurt him, though a jackass, very deeply."

To take an extreme example.

I don't mind holiday noises. Currently the noise that is bothering me the most is that horrendous stuff that the local twenty-somethings consider "music" that they blast at very high volume up at the pool. I can't swim when they're up there blasting that stuff. It's beyond annoying. Whoever it is sounds like they never had lesson one in their life, and the lyrics are beyond awful, it's the same two or three words screamed over and over and over. Gah. I am an old fogie, aren't I?! I don't know why they can't play some REO or Kansas or Foghat or.....

I don't think it is horrible at all. The incessant assault on the senses is overwhelming.

I might hate it less (not altogether mind) if it was actually only for the one day. But it starts about a month or so ahead of time - and does not let up.
Plus I think xmas spirit is not a good thing.

I think therapists could be neutral. I don't think one has to go from the extreme of positivity to morose.

Art - I think you need to get a couple boom boxes, hook them up to stereos, occupy the other side of the pool and blast REO or Kansas or whatever at them.

I would suggest Carmina Burana or Wagner - that way they will think you are into movie scores.

Maybe Ts feel like it their job to be posture when their client can't be positive or hope. I am sure that is what my t is doing. I just wish he could understand that I am feeling terrible and him being a cheerleader isn't always helpful. I just wish I could hear him say I understand you want to die.

Ah I get it. Yes, neutral was the word I was flailing around for and couldn't find. I guess what I was trying to get at (and failing very badly) is that there's a place for positivity and I want it, but not at the expense of humanity - I want acknowledgement of whatever I am going through and only then a reminder of how I can make it be for the best. Or something like that. I want to see somebody model that for me. Because I am not very good at seeing past whatever it is I'm in the middle of to know that something better is coming. Or something.

Sorry for rambling. I am here on the couch avoiding preparing my application for an opening at work for a "Communication Specialist" within my current job title/pay grade. ie it's not a raise just a change in responsibilities. And it would get me off the phones. I think I would be really good at it but I'm having a hard time putting together a little portfolio of things demonstrating that I can create graphics, and power point presentations, and that I can write work instructions and stuff. I can't find anything from my previous jobs, I have it all in a folder, but it's gone missing in our last move. Grrrr. So I'm trying to make new stuff and I can't focus. It was a very short turnaround time from when they announced it to when the application is due which is tomorrow.

I hate it when people invade public spaces with their music (and there are very few kinds of music that I don't like). It's selfish, IMNSHO, imposing your personal tastes on a space that's supposed to be for everyone.

yep... and it wouldn't even be so bad if they played it at a decent volume, considering they're all sitting in the hot tub, not that far away from the thing. It must be run by batteries, I haven't seen any electric sockets up there, it wouldn't seem safe around water.... but man the thing gets loud.

The ex had the kids yesterday and he took along a new lady friend.
I don't want any part of him, and I don't really want anyone new in my life yet either, but I'm jealous as f-.
Oh, and just to add insult to injury, he was giving his usual spiel about getting back together when I picked up the kids. F-er just likes to play with my head

That is when I would tell the woman to stop talking.
If they cannot understand the difference between them acknowledging and understanding of how I feel that I want to die without that meaning they have agreement with it- then they don't get to talk.
