I find that I can express myself better through writing then i can in verbally sharing my thoughts. I've always heard about journaling in therapy but never really partook in doing it, but I'm thinking it might be of benefit and I was interested in hearing whether anyone here finds journaling beneficial and what sorts of things you include in your journal?
Do you take your journal to therapy with you? I'm thinking of possibly creating a therapy style journal in which I take to my sessions and give it to T so they can read, that way my thoughts will be in one book instead of on 100s of pieces of paper

I use mine to jot down things that bothered me between session or during session or random things I want to ask t about. I try to keep it short so t isn't reading a book essentially instead of engaging with me.

I started a journal when I got home from my first intake session a few weeks ago. I mainly did it to prove to myself I was wrong to seek help, that things are okay. I write down each time I have an anxiety attack, or feel really bad. It has been very revealing. I have not made it through a day yet without writing one or more things down. This has convinced me I need to write everything down and take it with me when I meet my T, because I have a tendency to downplay my problems, even denying to myself. The journal might prove to be my best tool for self awareness yet. I highly suggest it to anyone who may have doubts.
Thanks for this!

I do journal but I keep an art journal which has more of that than words. However I also express myself much more easily through the written word and since we started we often have sessions where I write and T talks. What I can't say I can sometimes write instead and it has proved very useful for me, because as mentioned above, we are still.communicating in the moment, just not 'normally' I suppose. If I take my journal in T will always look if I ask her to and read if things are written. If it is a drawing or piece of 'art' she will ask questions, explore the meaning behind it with me etc but this can be hard to do through spoken word.

I have just started a written journal today, but this one if for my inner child only. She has a habit of disappearing sometimes and I want to try and keep her around so she can experience what T has to offer, a safe space where someone will actually listen and look out for her. It is undecided at the moment whether T will ever see this or not.

Thinking about it we have a very unique way of communicating and I am very grateful for her.
Thanks for this!

I keep a journal at the suggestion of my T. I write what I am thinking about right before bed and also if I have a nightmare. I write what my nightmare was about. I do not take in to our sessions though. I dont trust people and I am learning to trust her.
