I actually don't really see the practice as role play. When I am the client I am genuinely seeking help! And when I am in the therapist's chair I genuinely try to help. I know others find it hard to remove themselves from the somewhat artifical nature of it. I think I am helped by years of therapy!
Thanks for this!

ok everyone.. i have to vent.. I think my mom totally euthanized my sisters cat when she is in the hospital... .... soooo sad.. my mom is total narcissist.. my mom says she was taking cat to the vet (for what? wasn't asked to) and cat mysteristally died on the way in her car and she got him cremated right away"... no closure or good buy for my nephews it was a lifelong pet.. 15 years.. my dad just got her a bunch of stuff. and said the cat was just fine... my mom says.. it was old and expensive and "just happened to die on the way to the vet.. OMG>......sad sad sad sad

I hate being lied to. Just say **** you. Don't screw me and try to sell me on the idea that is not what is happening.

I would take a mom like that on a visit to the nearest "home," the kind with locks, and tell her it's just for the afternoon.

I had a session with my therapist today and there was construction outside her office that was so painful and triggering, she offered to go for a walk instead, so that's what we did. I was the same emotional mess as usual, but there was something very genuine about the whole hour that made me realize, hey, she really does care and it matters to me that she does. I wrote her after and she said she does care. And she did not add (like the last therapist did) that it's not in a personal way. She also walked my dog, and he did great with her--no pulling like he does with me. I am going to have to figure out what she does that is working with him (and me too, I guess).

I really like having a walking, sitting outside, session.

That's awesome roh roh. So glad that session worked for you. Recently my T's phone lines were being changed and there was a loud mouthed northern irish guy who sabotaged the whole session. I wish my T had suggested something like that.
Thanks for this!

Where are you in relation to the person? Are you advising them, teaching them, supervising them, friends with them, classmates with them?
I think the answer varies depending.

Honestly struggling to know what I can say non-judgementally. I have also been talking a friend whose mother recently committed suicide out of bereavement counselling. As soon as I suggested the issue she was like "yeah..."

I don't understand - is the person you think is wrong because she doesn't like simulated exercises the same person who's mother died?

Alas, since I am not in schooling yet - what you said completely makes sense. I think maybe if it was explained to them as below, that could be helpful. That it isn't "pretend" that is is actually practice with each other on skills. Unlike other 'practice sessions' in other fields this one is real. We may be in school but we all have things that we can learn to work through. Discuss that although it's in an artificial setting there are things to work on, discuss, and learn to move through - especially if the student has never had their own therapy. Does that make sense? It actually helped me look forward to it just typing it

Due to my husband buying things I am now using a 47" tv as a monitor.... It's too close to my face but nowhere else to put it. Looks awfully grainy and I fear it may make me blind. It's like my soul can feel the pixels.

You need a bigger desk.

What if you turned your desk end on? I suppose it would be too narrow.

For the Cheesemaker, I found this Bluegrass prodigy, and I don't know who to share it with. I hope you enjoy her rendition of a Dead tune(one of my favorite bands). I hope you appreciate this half as much as I do and I hope you are well.

Are you using a wireless mouse and keyboard? Those would also let you move back from the monitor.

I am like your husband and my people (to whom I try to bring joy and happiness through electronics) react in much the same way as you.

He bought himself another large 80" TV, so we had to play TV rodeo and I'm grateful for it, it's just huge and I'm not sure what to do with it lol.

Yes, I use wireless accessories. Trying to o figure out how to get a bit farther away from it.
