We may be very different and only "know" each other on this forum, but I want you to know I do care about you, for what little it's worth *embarrassed*
Thanks for this!

Hey BCM. Good to see you. I had old klonopin and I couldn't sleep. So I am watching episodes of drunk history. Maybe I'll try to sleep soon

It's my new favorite thing!!!! Celebrities or comedians are briefed on a small snippet of interesting history. Once they have it down they get trashed and then try to retell the story to hilarious effect. Often the scenes are acted out by actors in period costumes. YouTube has tons of clips. Here is one.

And if you can't go see Broadway's Hamilton then drunk history is pretty darn fine.

Made mistake of watching an anti domestic violence education video on facebook produced by the CPS of my country.

I can't believe they think a neighbor going up to the apartment unit where you can clearly hear a boy being THRASHED and offering them BAKED GOODS is the "first step a person can take".

Oh yeah, and FB comments are already posting about similar scenarios they've encountered where police did nothing when they called!

My parents were right. I could scream all I want and nobody would care.

There's a video campaign that ran in India created by a nonprofit called Breakthrough (they're now running large scale research studies on its efficacy) -- it was rather simple, in that, if you suspected something, just go to that house and interrupt with an innocuous question (they showed an example of a man who's wearing a watch going up to an apartment with suspected violence and asking "What is the time?"). It sounds silly in the description but the idea was two-fold -- 1. To get the abusers to realize that someone's watching and 2. To make it less overwhelming for bystanders to intervene. I don't know this stuff off the top of my head (could probably dig it up once I get home) but there is evidence to suggest that direct / hard interventions in these cases can really jeopardize the status of the victims if there isn't a real safety net to immediately hold them (which even in the West can be rather patchy).

The way I look at it then is that the fact that there is a public conversation about it is huge -- else, more often than not it's swept up under the rug of culture + this is what love / family does in our culture (unlike the West which needlessly freaks out blah blah).

I know that's not much consolation but....
Thanks for this!

Thank you for your words - it hadn't occurred to me that hard / direct interventions could be extremely difficult. There isn't much of a safety net where I live, which is disappointing as hell.

There's also that captures mindset yeah of " it's swept up under the rug of culture + this is what love / family does in our culture (unlike the West which needlessly freaks out blah blah). "

There was a recent case where a 4 year old died from abuse. No one came to his aid in such a high density population of apartment units even though it TBH should have been impossible to NOT hear what was going on.

Trying a new antidepressant: Trintellix/Brintellix, been on it a month now...just starting to feel more stable, not crying @ the drop of a hat... finally. Trying to be grateful and not worry about the "how long will it keep working?" issue... since my 30 years with this monkey on my back as proven that no medication lasts forever!! and it BETTER work for the frickin' price!!

Totally random- Anyone interested in history? I have inherited 3 sets of VHS tapes about WW2...two "Victory At Sea" sets and another on significant battles of WW2. I don't need them but I don't want to just give them to Goodwill...would it be better to donate them to a library? Anyone have other ideas?
Thanks for this!

The library I volunteer at would just trash them - no interest in adding outdated technology to the collection and they won't sell at book sales for the same reason.
Thanks for this!

Maybe Goodwill is a better choice, then...

I've asked to join a WW2 forum...thinking, I will ask them, too.
Maybe it's silly.

This morning during my lecture course, two students were talking while I was. Another student turned around and shushed them so she could hear me. I was really quite touched.

Just came back from walking, 2nd day in a row. Came home, took a quick shower, styled my hair, sprayed on some yummy old lady eau de t (bal a versailles), feeling incredibly good!!! picked up my phone and saw a vm from the aunt i thought i blocked last month. From an unidentified number. At least this explains why my carrier texted me about somebody trying to do stg to my phone acct. But see - just like al pacino said, every time you think youre free, they try to pull you back in. Not this time, mi amigos!
