I'm trying to make a list of self-care ideas. Please help me add to the list. I'm sure it would help others too.

1) Listen to music
2) Read
3) Watch Movies
Thanks for this!

Get out of the house:

Browse a bookstore or go to the library.
Treat yourself to a cup of coffee somewhere where you can just sit and read.
Take a good walk every day.
Check your community for activities centers where you can go to exercise or take classes (often they are very affordable).

Find activities that require brain power and focus (on something other than your problems:

jigsaw puzzles
word puzzles
painting/coloring
gardening
board games

Many of these you can probably do with your siblings and it will be good care for them also.
Thanks for this!

For me, I learned in a group to be as specific as possible with my self care ideas. What movies will I/you watch? What books to read? What music will I listen to? I also tailor it for mood- for instance, the music I listen to when I'm mad is different than when I'm anxious.

Having said that- I generally
-paint my nails
-listen to my playlists
-watch my favorite youtuber
-do yoga videos from a particular website
-go for a run at the path in my neighborhood
-read one of my current books (I'm usually reading 3 at a time or so)
-text one of my best friends
-take a bath with one of those Lush bath bombs (sooo relaxing) or bubbles
-write in my journal
-watch Doctor Who or Friends or any other series I may be currently watching
-cook
Thanks for this!

Love playing with kids in my extended far flung family. Wish I were closer because being auntie energizes me.

Certain scents calm me so I use lavender essential oil on clothes or spray on something that is soothing. I also find applying lotion quite calming. I keep hand cream in bag and apply when anxious. Lush has a massage bar called Tender is the Night and massaging it into my hands can help - but I also know their products are not exactly cheap and less expensive options work too...

I don't know about you, but sometimes my fear about NOT being ok makes me feel more anxious! It's a never-ending cycle.

Sometimes caring for ourselves means allowing ourselves to feel sad or scared. Not to say we should wallow in it, but rather we should allow ourselves permission to "not be ok." This is especially important for you as I believe you are trying so hard to be strong for your younger siblings.

Just giving myself permission to feel these emotions tends to provide some relief.
Thanks for this!

Taking a long shower!!! I have a little ledge where I have a few air plants and a nice votive candle holder. Heaven.

Giving myself permission lay in bed and be in bed and be comfortable and provided for. I always got punished growing up for feeling sick, or too tired, or headache-y, so I make feeling lousy an event- get a million pillows, heating pad, tea/hot cocoa/ hot toddy, cookies, laptop, favorite books, journal, everything I could possibly want for the next several hours.

A nice walk in the park with snacks for a mini picnic.

Followup thoughts in line with what yellowbuggy was saying... on activist-tumblr I've seen the term "radical act of resistance" applied to the concept of self care. This rang very true for me-- to really care for myself, I have to break the rules I internalized growing up. It's hard. It takes practice.
