I personally detest the way I feel when I do it so it's not a part of my lifestyle, but I'm glad more places are legalizing/decriminalizing. It's such a waste that people get criminal records for that stuff.

Weed, not chocolate cake

Though the two are related certainly

(Incidentally I don't like chocolate cake either, I guess I'm some kind of monster)

I like it better than alcohol. I use pot a couple of times a year when my insomnia gets extremely bad. It just puts me right to sleep.

I tried to acquire an enjoyment of it for about 15 years, but no matter the strain or method of using, it messes with my airways and makes me itchy and paranoid. It took me so long to admit I hated it and most people's reactions to this are that I must not have tried the right way yet. Eh.

Pot just leaves me feeling very very slow and awfully stupid (more so than usual).

Alcohol brings out my rage + violent fantasies in much greater intensity.

Kratom leaves me feeling way too emotional / sentimental / touchy-feely.

I'm realizing that I'm not particularly fond of any of those effects, really.

kratom helps me with anxiety and stuff but it ALWAYS leads to harder opioids for me

Holy cow that looks delicious! We just got invited to a bbq at our friends house this afternoon, and I asked if I could bring something and they said "desert" so I think I must stop and buy a chocolate cake!! Usually I bake something, but they're throwing this together at the last minute so I'll bring a store bought yummy.

(((Couch)))

...there's a big thunderstorm heading our way and I'm so scared.

Scared like a child... like a dog.

And my flatmate just brought a good friend of mine home with him so she could use the loo (they're having a BBQ on the beach) and I'm sitting on my bed in my dressing-gown with my laptop and she put her head in the door and said hi and I felt so bloody awkward about it. I don't know if that even makes any sense but I just wasn't in any mood for socialising and I like her and don't want her to think that I'm a twat

I feel sick.

And, others can chip in with ideas? That way we'll have a collective encyclopaedic reference thread to check out whenever we're unsure how to respond? I'm totally serious.

For example, I had absolutely no idea what to say yesterday in any of these really normal sorts of situations -- 1. Folks who were complaining about their (incredibly sucky) jobs; 2. Folks talking about having a fight with their partners. I mostly just stared at them quizzically and made a few sympathetic-sounding-in-my-head-but-mostly-coming-out-as-a-constipated-burp noises (and was largely grateful that they most likely attributed my weird non-response to my being piss-drunk -- problem is I'd have been even more awkward and weird if I hadn't had a few).
I don't know what to say either. Sometimes people just want to talk and sometimes they want advice, but sometimes I can't tell which.

So I am all for the "listening-intently" look and making a few noises here or there.

I do sometimes think of more useful responses later...like hours later. Or maybe days.

When I tried pot in college I basically ate everything in sight and then would fall asleep. But even stoned I did not like chocolate cake. So we can be monsters together.

[I would like a furry monster emoji so that I can insert it here.]

I usually try to find the person who likes to act the most maternal or sensitive and caring and shove them at the emotional person And let them handle it

I often just ask which they want. While scanning the horizon for the caring person to shove at them

I learned a lot from my retail job... People were always saying the most random things to me. And even telling me their depressing life stories. When I first worked there I would freeze up and turn red and not say anything. Smile and nod. But I learned how to roll with it pretty well
