My day: a haiku

Work, it's crunch time now

Is this the place where I can come to tell the world that my T is excellent!? Just thinking of today's session and I have no idea how can someone be so good. She is extremely smart, has a great sense of dry humour, is compassionate and understanding without getting too emotional and a great help for me figuring stuff out. I am in awe. Yay her.

Sometimes people use Dear T to write such declarations about their therapists.

But on the Couch we do everything from gush about them to write stories in which therapists die because of other therapists. So pretty much anything goes.

What I'd do is have you do is use a service that provides audio associated with definitions. which has the audio for words, as well as the definition with them. Quizlet, an online flash card service, does have audio associated with its products. I use it all the time in my classroom.

As an aside, I'm going through training for a multi-sensory program designed to help with spelling, and it would have been perfect for you.
They said that I had good visual perception processing. I don't know what test would have counted for that. I did a total of 5 hours of testing. I hated the one where you had to say the words cuz a word is in the Elio dictionary or it isn't and if it isn't I can't say it. But if you were to say it, I'd probably know it. There were many on the last cards that I could not say. I'll reach out to you once I get the written results, those should have more details about the specific tests. Thanks for the suggestion. There are supposed to be more suggestions with the final report.

Elise, if we made you a doll of your therapist- would you treasure it or stick pins in it? And how much detail would you expect?

Yeah the test you're describing is the phonological processing (sound to letter) subtest of what I assume is the WJ-IV, though there are many batteries that would test the same thing. It totally makes sense that it was hard, which is okay! Everyone struggles typically with one or more subtest.

The reason memorization would work well is that you have good visual processing, which is basically the brains ability to make sense of what you see. So if you think of words as a pattern of shapes versus trying to sound it out (weakness for you) then you should have more success with remembering definitions.

I'd be happy to look over whatever reports you receive or to discuss what they mean with you Couch 143: The Mr. Rogers Love Transformation

I didn't answer this question before, but how about both... this is not an 100% either or state but a continuum of existence... most the time I'd treasure. Then well there are those times where I just don't get what I want *little kid pout* There isn't a tantrum gif/emoji??

Well, I took a little nap and just woke up not long ago. I still need to finish cleaning, but have to leave for CVS in 10 minutes. Guess that will be a job for tonight or tomorrow before CVS.

Which sucks because the purpose of the testing for me was to get a waiver on the minimum GRE scores in Verbal for a grad program in Bioinformatics and Biological Statistics.

Since I don't have any problems with memory, they suggest I just get the list of vocabulary words and start memorizing. The best way for me that I know of right now is through reading stuff preferably fictional stuff that uses these vocabulary words so I can grasp the concept of the word through context. So, for those of you that are in the know - is there anything like that for any level I'd say above probably a 5th grade vocabulary level? The higher the better but I know I have gaps that are at a much lower level and to be honest with the changes in academics, I have no clue as to what is now considered a 5th grade vocabulary level.

Oh and it would be great if these books had an audiobook format because I won't be able to sound out the words if they are not something that is pretty straight forward.

Example from my test...
exaggerate ... my spelling: exgurrate Yep I can recognize it when I read it and I know what it means and everything. Just don't ask me to spell it without help.
There is a very funny book called the Confederacy of Dunces by Jonathan toole. It has a pretty big vocabulary in it and it is also funny or at least I thought so. I've always been used to looking up words that I am unfamiliar with but also trying to figure them out before I get the definition based on the context clues in the literature

Lady I rent from asked if I needed help. I kind of do, but I don't want her going through some of my stuff.
It was nice of her to offer - though I question her motives!
