In the writers workshop I'm doing we have to write a short 500-750 word piece every week.

Last week it was:

Setting: A pet store
Characters: Two
Action: Someone is buying a pet

This week it is:

Setting: A convenience store
Characters: Two or three.
Action: Someone is stealing something.

I got through the pet store one by using a different meaning of "pet" , and I have an idea to make the second one interesting, but geez, is next week's assignment going to be two characters in a used car lot buying a car?

Eta dammit my new screen glass guard chipped already. Im just gonna put white tape on it like on my eyeglasses.

Are you redefining stealing or the thing being stolen? Pray tell.

Stealing something like a heart, a soul or the layout of the store (corporate espionage)?
Or two characters like the slushy machine and the hotdog warmer?

There’s a guy who just lost his job wandering the store picking up items and fiddling with them like he might be a shoplifter. There’s a clerk studying philosophy who’s working on Heinz’s dilemma (do you steal medicine you can’t afford to save your dying wife?) while watching the guy.

And on the TV behind the counter, a World Series game is on, and a player is going to steal home.

So the theft doesn’t take place in the store. I guess I’m using a non-perjorative sense of “steal.”

I got away with the sexual meaning of “pet,” maybe I can get away with this too.

Eta: I did think of a heart, too, SD. But corporate espionage is an awesome idea.

Speaking of writing a story, I did a sand tray yesterday during my session, and it was quite a happy-looking one. I should have taken a picture but I sketched it instead. T gave me homework to write a story from it and I thought that was a great idea. My favorite part was that among other things in there, I put the little unicorn with his front legs up in the air like he was getting ready to fly. Perhaps in my story I will ride the unicorn off into the sunset.. I still want us to do a sand tray together, it just didn't feel like the right time yesterday. I wanted it all to myself haha. Maybe next week...

Just for you, I will make it Jacoby Ellsbury.

Eta: making it a World Series game has also allowed me to mock Joe Buck.

Good god -the things those people do. https://www.psychotherapynetworker.o...730amthrottled
But it explains in some ways a few of the idiotic things the woman has tried -They did not work for me and mostly pissed me off.

I agree with the ending with "huh"; otherwise I feel the article had some good points. My T and I do a lot of this type of communication; however, she does not use the "huh" portion. It would annoy me. The few times she's asked where in my body I feel something - that has annoyed me as well. I have felt like she was with me when she has said things like it being hard to talk about something (usually after a long silence). More recently, she's been commenting/reflecting back at me when I look at different things in the office. I have written many times in my journal what is going on with me in those moments, so I think she's finally starting to understand what those non-verbal actions are trying to communicate. In fact, in my journal, I write from this stance frequently. I pair my inner world thoughts, with what I perceive is going on with my body and in conjunction with what is verbally being said.

Granted like most this stuff, what works for one client will not work for another because we each are unique in our needs from therapy.
Thanks for this!

I'm all for therapists being observant and using all available data to access the things I feel but can't say... but if either of my shrinks started making "contact statements" I'd get all self-conscious and try even harder than I already do to prevent my body from betraying my feelings.
Thanks for this!
