After an appointment especially an intense one, how to so shut back down so you can go back to being productive? Lately I get pretty intense headaches after which t says is likely from me trying to stuff my emotions. Last week I completely shut every body out and listened to headphones
A lot. I emotionally went inside and even shut out T even though normally I would reach out to her. This week I would love to shut everybody out again. However, I have EMDR today so some of the same topics I just discussed with T1 just from a different angle...ugh. feeling fried and crispy.

I have a few things to help with the intensity, one is walking my dog

I also journal, call or text my best friend about some of my thoughts after, talk to my dog, go online and vent, watch a funny show or movie and lastly, take a nap. Not sure if any of that helps you but that's my helpful options

Walking on fresh air, shower, watch funny or relaxing videos, tidy up 😊

That's a difficult one - my EMDR T tried a different technique with a few issues arising. Getting out into nature , exercise ( Tai Chi / Qui gong are good ) posting on here ! Stuffing those emotions down is something we do. I've got insomnia now , so right with you on what can happen , you're not alone.

One of the hardest things for me is that where I live we have been having a ridiculously cold and snowy wintet....I totally hate being outside in the cold and snow. I am sure that has not helped me at all.

Sometimes an appointment on a friday can ruin a whole weekend....

I know its not always a healthy way to deal with it but I stopped myself from crying last time. The times before that I just rolled around on the bed in agony.

There comes a time when you do have to somewhat control yourself and say no, I am going to do this now and compartmentalize.

But with holding emotion can be bad too. I think you have to learn when enoughs enough. I want my weekend not to be all'miserable.!

People here have suggested great thoughts.

I decide not to go back to therapy and I keep that decision every week until the morning of the next session when off I trot. And so the tedious cycle continues.

First, I usually buy myself something nice to reward myself if I brought up a hard topic. Like an ice cream or chocolate bar, burger, something like that. Then, I write notes about whatever happened in session. Usually as detailed as possible, so that I later can read it again to cheer me up, calm me down or similar things.

That whole process takes about an hour, and after that I can usually concentrate on different things for a few hours, before processing it more in the evening.

I have done the same thing many times especially with EMDR.
