I wouldn't want to use the word 'delusion', but as a lifelong cat-fan I am quite certain that they can't read. I don't think they'd want to even if they could to be honest. Also they can't focus on things that are close to them.

Reason for asking is Ebony seemed able to recognise that word writ down on the side of police cars when they go by the house, so technically if she was recognising the word on the cars she was reading it, idk for sure if she was actually reading it or whether there was something in her brain that associated those cars with bad things

Well, she could have recognised the colours, the flashing lights, the sirens. Cats are intelligent and sensitive creatures but you may have been projecting some ideas onto her or anthropomorphising her a bit - not in a delusional way, just a normal, human way.

A bit like how I used to tell myself that Ani would come under the duvet and snuggle with me when she knew I was feeling sad or afraid, but really I know she just did it when she was cold

My friends cat used to watch the clock on the VCR and run to the kitchen for dinner when it turned to 7:00.

Cat was fasting? Being an ascetic? New diet?

That cat would clearly be a Nobel Prize winner if it was human.

Speaking of cats and police, I bet Pawfficer Donut can recognize the word “police.”

Una, might wanna be careful, Pawfficer Donut looks like a no-nonsense type.

ETA: last stop on my cleaning spree, the kitchen. Ick.

"A serious medical condition transmittable to other cats" but they won't say what it is -- my mind goes to wondering if Pawfficer has been rather naughty and it's a sordid cover-up by Detroit's finest.

Feline leukemia. Although “cover-up” and “Detroit” are no strangers.

She's a hero! She probably caught it while she was undercover! Show some respect! Who knows how many of her nine lives she may have already risked?!

My animals (like most pets I believe) know about the time when they get breakfast and dinner and their walk and their post walk snack. If I try to sleep in - I get 4 noses poking at me. When it is walk time - the dogs get restless and start going to the door unless we took an earlier walk for some reason (I try to walk after most of the children have gone away). The end of daylight saving time wreaks havoc on us all -falling back seems to make them think they may never get breakfast again.

Oh, get your duff out the door and go play golf.

I think we’re sitcom material. I just can’t figure out whether I’m Archie or Edith.

ETA: incidentally, the amount of grease you left in the kitchen is just staggering.
