Couch 172: Couch me if you can

I needed someone to Bob last night. una kind of did. I'm feeling much better this morning and over my pity party.

I read somewhere that if you name your fears they have less power over you. What are you afraid of? You need all the support you can get and I don't think your T would be pushing for it if they didn't think you need it.

Have they given you a list of things you're allowed to bring in with you?

Art, as I recall, you really needed to have your therapist hear you and accept that you wanted to end therapy. When she finally did that earlier this year, it felt healing to you. That seems pretty important and valuable, regardless of where you ultimately land. I don't actually think there is always a final destination to therapy, unless it starts with a really tightly defined goal or purpose (I have known people to use it for getting through a divorce, for example). What you've been through, are going through, is what I think of as the process--you needed to have that experience of being heard. Now, you are working to develop your own authority, which is a lot more challenging and frightening (to me anyway) than wanting other people to do things to make you feel better. It takes a long time. It's not about blame or being stupid. Feeling stupid is actually a good clue to maybe how you felt in your family growing up? What did they know about you? They were just caught up in their own self made movies. Something I need to remind myself about a lot.

Thank you so very very much for this. What I bolded - this - so so so much this!! Especially the part about it being challenging and frightening. And yeah feeling stupid is exactly how I felt in my family growing up.

As for me, I had a complete break down on the highway this morning driving to work. Had to pull off to the side of the road because otherwise I was going to wreck. Called T, see him in about 2 hours. Pocket riders, please?

Kenny was top dog and officially the BOSS though he only popped up every other episode. Same with Maris- she wasn't seen, but the show wouldn't have been the same without her.

I love the new display picture. My sister bought a small stuffed one which is so cute.

I don't want to break up with T even though it seems like we're stuck in a transference- countertransferance loop right now. I think the break will do us good.

I know deep down that we'll get over this too, so I'm feeling calmer.

I wrote T a letter today as well, Yesterday's was 4 pages, today was 6. LOL. At this rate, the poor guy will be reading stuff all of August....

It's gonna be really hard to decide what to give him and then what we don't discuss out loud, I gotta wait longer on for him to read and discuss next week. Today's was super important though, I think I may have to try to read most of it in session.

I had a breakthrough thought this morning and actually, I'm completely unanxious about him dying now. That's largely what I wrote about. Granted, this is still hard and I'm anxious as heck about him cutting off contact forever and things changing with us when he's back but this huge weight is off me, so that's something.
