Couch 172: Couch me if you can

The only thing that comes to mind recently was on Saturday when we met, I admitted that sometimes I wish he was my friend and quickly added that I know he isn't. His response was that was totally normal and he can't be a friend. I wish I hadn't said this out loud to him even though it's the truth.

I am not persuaded that childhood needs can never be met in adulthood. I believe this to be a self-serving therapist dogma. After all, how can we know it won't work if the therapist never even tries?

Any doctor will admit that medicine still has a lot to learn and that old theories are still being disproved. And bodily medicine has much stronger scientific basis than psychotherapy!

If the central message of therapy is "get used to disappointment," it's not surprising that a lot of patients feel cheated. Grrrrr!

On another note, I just sent my HOA an email complaining about the trespassing perennial thief. It'll be interesting to see what comes of that.

Where is SD right now?!?!

I have two sessions with T left. Today and on tuesday before he is away for 27 days.

I asked last session where he was going, but he didn't tell me. I've dropped talking about the email contact that I originally wanted and brought up before. I don't think he'll want to initiate that anyway or he'll just tell me we didn't arrange anything when he comes back. I know it's just going to be a giant "F off S- let's see if you're still alive when I come back because I need you to help pay for my Christmas break".
