I hear that, about the still working anyway. I do NOT want to have to be working at 100 if I even get there. But L loves her job that much, I guess.....

They sit there and get handed money to be adored (at least by most of their clients by their own accounts) - why would one need to retire?
But I think it is hard for a lot of professionals to envision retirement. I am not super excitedly looking forward to it for reasons other than salary.

Oh my gosh, I loathe meatloaf, and last night it's what my Mom made for dinner. So I'm grown, I don't have to eat that, I went to Starbucks with a friend and got a sandwich there. But my Mom was a little hurt that I didn't at least eat the baked potato. She said, "Your dad likes it, sometimes I have to cook to please him! I can't just make what you like!" I hated being forced to retire prematurely as I loved my job I really liked the routine and now I have to find something to fill those hours with. Plus it was good and I was forced to interact with people and now I am totally a hermit.

Well, they are supposed to stay awake for the adoration. If I'm alive at 100, I will at least want the freedom to doze off in my easy chair or wheelchair or what have you.

I don't particularly want to retire even though I am not adored by many of my students. I do think the usual sort of gushiness over therapists that many indulge in can be a heady mix and difficult to give up.

Your mom would have hated me. I went veggie in 6th grade, so I didn't eat any of her dinners. Pretty much had to fend for myself. I don't really remember what I ate...

I would eat more pizzas if they weren’t so expensive our local chain of pizza stores have closed down so now we are left with dominoes and the mumma and papa ones. We have a large Italian population and the town up should really be called Little Italy.

Well she wouldn't have hated you but she would have tried to guilt you. My Mom is good at that. But as long as she doesn't have to fix two different dinners she's okay. My sister on the other hand, has five kids, and sometimes fixes as many as seven different dinners. She's nuts. Kit

Do you have to retire? Over here there is no compulsory retirement anymore and people are still working well into their 80 we have a 91 year old mechanic in my town.

I don't think I've ever heard of compulsory retirement. The owner of the business I work for is 81. He's fit as a fiddle and sharp as a tack!

I couldn’t do seven different dinners, but I would occasionally fix a different dinner if one of the kids violently objected. But they knew this was a treat and not a usual thing.

Aww that was nice of you. Growing up we had a choice, eat what Mom made, or don't eat until the next day. Now that I'm grown, I'm like, I have money, I have a car, I can go get something. Mom usually minds because she spent time making it, but she knows I loathe meatloaf so she had to expect I wasn't going to eat it. There's not enough barbeque sauce in the world...Kit

We used to have a compulsory retirement age according tot the govt and most businesses so when men reached 65 and women 60 I think. I think superannuation funds still hold onto this as a minimum age for accessing it. But legally a business can’t force you to retire At these ages anymore.

The thing they usually wanted wasn’t hard to prepare if it had been it may have been a different story

I think with Mom it was a principle of the thing. Like, "I made a perfectly good meal, and you should eat it." She was pretty rigid that way. I might not be thrilled with dinner all the time, but if I am eating with my parents, I will normally eat what she makes. But meatloaf is where I draw the line. Kit
