Welcome to the couch, old and new! A place to hang out - sometimes you get immediate feedback, sometimes you don't.

Shouting, "Cool Whip" tends to bring others out from between the cushions if you're feeling lonely.

This is a chatty thread. All are welcome. We're kind of psychologically oriented, sometimes. We try to be supportive. At times we discuss what that means.

It’s a place to plop down on the couch when you come home from work or wherever, or wake up in the middle of the night, or check in at lunch, rant a bit or not, and be among friends.

We advise you not to drink or drug and text your therapist ("T") - we speak from experience.

Sometimes the thread moves fast and you might get overlooked; sometimes it moves slowly and all you hear are crickets. Sometimes you get hugged or thanked pages later. So if it's a bigger question, you might want to start a new thread.

Grab a cushion, a spot on the floor, or an armchair in the corner and make yourselves comfy!

The Aurora Borealis also known as the northern lights are something I want to see someday. Plus I like to think of everyone on the couch as a light to someone else.

I disagree with CE. A gift is a bribe, its IN STEAD of love.

We did have this moment where I said I was my father's daughter, that he was the most important person to me at the moment.( to which he replied that was the most real thing I've said in weeks). I said he couldn't see the real me, but then I don't know the real me. He said the way he behaved was because he cared about me. That he didn't need all the extra stuff. I reacted the way I did because I felt rejected, but now I think that in a way he could have taken advantage of me but didn't,

Can you break it down? What's the reason for the anger?

Are you part of a team or is it a solo presentation?

I did end up going to the study group, and I left at 6.30pm. It's good in a way, but they stop every 10 seconds to ask questions to make sure it's crystal clear, but it takes longer. I'm going to just work on my own tomorrow, but have this fear of missing out. (like Walgreen's in the Theranos scandal).

About a 30 minute solo presentation then Q & A. I get terrible anxiety when I have to do these things. Blushing and shaking and stuttering and all that. I've tried different ways of preparing/presenting and nothing helps.

I liked Maxwell Maltz book Psychocybernetics. It sounds simple to say, but one of the things he suggested was to imagine it all out in your head bit by bit. Perhaps you can you film yourself doing the presentation, then watch it back to see where you could improve? Can you take a transitional object with you and keep it in your pocket?

Good luck on your presentation. When it's time for the Q & A, ask if there are any questions with your palms down. It's a subconscious signal that you aren't open to receiving questions. It's a little trick I used during uni that I found helpful. HUGS Kit

Thanks, I'll check that book out. I have tried making videos of myself presenting before. I don't think a transitional object would do much for me.

Thanks. I actually want them to ask questions, it's bad if they don't. My hope is to get them all talking to each other during the Q&A so I can hyperventilate while they're distracted.

Pre therapy I read a lot of self help books. I bought how to win friends and influence people and surprising it helped me learn how to talk to people. When my anxiety was at it's worst at around 16, even talking on the phone was hard for me. The authour Dale Carnegie also wrote one specifically about public speaking which I have. a quick google brought up the title : How to Develop Self-Confidence & Influence People by Public Speaking.

Also perhaps you can start small? Could you give the presentation to a few family members first so you could practice with an audience?

My friends had opera tickets to see Idomeneo, thinking I should I have gone with them now. From google:

Cretan king Idomeneo who, when returning from the Trojan war and his life threatened, he promises god Neptune that he will sacrifice to him the first person he meets on land. But it is actually his own son Idamante.

Thanks, I will probably check out that book. May do the practice presentation to family, we'll see. Sometimes that just feels fake to me.

That's so neat! How did you like it? It's easy and also, like, aggressively healthy with all those veggies.
Electric Manatee, it was SO delicious. The recipe went into my Soup, Beautiful Soup folder so that I can make it again. I even heated the leftovers some for late breakfast this morning.

Evening, Couch.

I'm taking a break from pottery for a while. Need to find something that helps me chill out rather than frustrating me.

I can’t miss an opening like this.

If a Cretan tells you “all Cretans are liars” (actual Greek saying)...is he lying or telling the truth?

I'm stepping away for the weekend again at least, I think it's been good for me to step back from here. I need to work on doing it with Facebook as well. Tomorrow I have my only local friend coming over to watch a movie. One of my favorites she has never seen! It's gonna be a rainy weekend though so lots of cleaning and sleeping.
