I’m working on revising the next story I plan to send out. Grammar fiends of the Couch, a question: is had passive in English, even without “been”? One of my fellow work shoppers insists it is in his comments, but I just see it as pluperfect if it doesn’t have “been” with it.

“Had marched” is active, “had been marched” is passive to me. Have I spent too much time studying dead inflected languages?
Thanks for this!

I was told I would never make it life because my grasp of spelling and grammar was so bad... but I’m with you on how I would feel reading it in a publication as a normal person.

I think "had marched" would still be passive. Are you not supposed to use passive voice?

Seeing T's backup T (R) in about a half hour. I had a phone session with her back in February, but this will be the first time I'm meeting with her in person. Feeling nervous. And I think her office is next-door to T's, so that might trigger some sadness if his door is closed. Or even if it's open, and I can see in but know he's not there.

Passive voice is supposed to be bad writing, since passive verbs tend to be weak verbs.

See, if I say "the army had marched for seven days," the subject is doing the acting. If I say "the army had been marched for seven days by their general," the general is doing the action, so it's passive. But maybe I'm completely off and English has changed.

"Having" would be past or perfect tense and its equivalent would be "has marched" (definitely active). The "had" makes it pluperfect and takes it one step further into the past. English teachers might call it the past perfect, idk.
Thanks for this!

And research articles often involve passive voice so I’m used to it.

They're peanut butter sandwich cookies shaped like peanuts with peanut butter crème. No chocolate unless you get the fudge-dipped ones.

Yeah, academic writing is a whole different ball game. I've had to train myself out of research writing habits (semicolons, stuff like that).

My therapist is taking a 5-day weekend this week, will be in the wilderness so no contact, and I'm feeling a bit sad about it. Then he's back for a week and a half and will take another 11-day vacation which coincides with my trauma anniversary. Not feeling good about this at all. At least he will be in civilization for that one and has said he wants to set up some contact. I'm feeling really fragile right now because of trauma stuff and my body going haywire.

I love peanut butter. They used to make these candy bars called PB Max. Those things were so addictive. I'm not sure why they quit making them.

Eat a box for me if you get them.

I don't remember PB Max, but Wikipedia says the Mars family personally didn't like peanut butter, so they discontinued them. Not a rational economic reason!

And which makes me worry about the future of peanut butter M&M's.
Thanks for this!

I remember those mmm. I love peanut butter too. I don't even buy it because I can't control myself when there's a jar in the house!
